29 Secrets – This wonderful site offers a daily dose of for-women-by-women content, and is targeted at the audience of savvy “in the know” urban women. 29Secrets is, according to their About page, “your go-to guide to everything beauty, relationships, wellness and fashion, as well as top-of-mind celebrity gossip. We want to motivate, inform and make you smile.” And they sure deliver. Browse the site’s various witty and engaging posts, covering topics such as relationships, fashion trends, makeup how-to’s and more.
My favorite 29Secrets posts were Five Minute Makeup and 6 Ways to Eat Less. For more women related sites, I suggest you visit our Blogs page and scroll all the way down to the Women’s faveline. Clicking on the category title will redirect you to our Women’s Mini page, where even more exciting relevant sites await you…
Move Idiot – Moving into a new place can be a pain. Let’s face it; after you’re done with phase 1 of the project (finding a place and signing the lease agreement), phase 2 is just as daunting. Getting your stuff together, packing it all in many (too many perhaps) cardboard boxes, transporting them and unpacking them in the new place is quite a hassle. This usually is the case for most of us, but it doesn’t have to be the actual scenario.
Move Idiot offers a step by step move-in helper, a “free Web-based service that makes it easy to manage and plan entire moves online.” Use this much needed tool to organize your things, track your boxes via major shipping carriers in real-time, and keep a close eye on how much you’re spending along the way. For the more skeptics among you, I would point out that Move Idiot has received a nice dose of media attention, including from Mashable, ReadWriteWeb, and LifeHacker, just to name a few. That’s enough validation in my book, and I will definitely use this service next time I’m moving out.
Get the Glass – Get the Glass is a 3D board game produced by the Got Milk? campaign advertisers. Got Milk? are known for years for their high creativity, and this is most definitely the case with this game. The game is well designed, plotted with intriguing milestones, and includes excellent vocals such as You’ll be Back!
The goal of the game is to get the Adachi family around the board and break into Fort Fridge so they can Get the Glass and drink as much milk as they desire. I truly enjoyed this game, but to be completely honest, I was unable to complete it. Somehow I always found myself sent to Milkatraz. My brother, on the other hand completed it, so I guess winning is possible. I think the secret to success in this game lies in being persistent.
Hipster Puppies – According to Wikipedia, Hipster is “a slang term that first appeared in the 1940s, and was revived in the 1990s and 2000s often to describe types of young, recently-settled urban middle class adults and older teenagers with interests in non-mainstream fashion and culture.” So what is a Hipster Puppy? Exactly like the human kind, only belonging to the canine species. The difference is that I don’t think the dogs in the pictures below have had the freedom to choose the character of their depiction. By the way, do you think Hipster Puppies are necessarily owned by Hipsters (See Urban Dictionary definition), or maybe by hipster wannabes? And that is indeed a tricky question.
Freshbump – We’ve already featured and talked about Gawker-like sites that use a showcase of pictures as a way of starting a social discussion and increasing users’ exploration of the Web. FreshBump uses the same premise, and does so beautifully. In terms of areas of focus, “Freshbump is a daily visual inspiration source for industries including, but not limited to: Advertising, Architecture, Computer Arts, Graphic Design, Illustration, Industrial Design, Interior Design, and Photography.” The FreshBump added value is its social media aspect which “facilitates community driven content promotion and prioritizes posts based on the collective view of our userbase.”
Exploring FreshBump is easy; simply browse the big squared photos and click on whatever interests you. Another way you can pursue is clicking on one of “today’s most bumped” thumbnails on the upper part of the homepage. That’s how I came across the great posts below.
Failbooking – Another Facebook spin-off site is out there for you to enjoy: Failbooking. Joining Lamebook and its step brother and sister sites, Failbooking also dwells on the weird, politically incorrect and just downright pathetic content created by Facebook users. With a motto of “Too Funny to Unfriend,” Failbooking presents, in the name of humor of course, the mishaps of not-so-dear-to-heart friends of friends… My favorites were Babies Are Expensive But Humiliation is Free and There Are So Many Things That Need To Be Addressed Here.
Bloons TD 4 – If you visited our games page in the past, you might have played Tower Defense or Bloons, maybe both. Now (for the fourth time), you can play both together with this cool mashup. The Bloon monkey has to defend and pop all the bloons. Help him while using the new destruction tools. Do you want more of the best games out there? Then subscribe to our blog by email (top right corner) or RSS, and you will receive weekly updates on new sites and games.
Oscar.com – It’s that time of the year again, the glitz-and-glamour event of the 82nd Academy Awards. This coming Sunday is when the magic happens and we have the perfect site for you that will make sure you’re on top of everything: Oscar.com. It’s ABC’s beautifully made one-stop place for all things Oscar. If you remember, this very site was featured here on All My Faves last year, but the 2010 Oscar website outdid itself this time around. Therefore, it received yet again the Weekly Fave spot this week.
One of the cool features you should check out on Oscar.com (aside from the Nominees page of course) is the Oscars Designer Challenge (Best Dress), hosted by “Queer Eye for the Straight Guy’s” Carson Kressley. Although voting is over, you can still catch up on this fashion showdown from the beginning. Plus, the winning dress design (out of the 9 finalists) and model will be announced during the Oscars Pre-Show this Sunday. See my favorite designs in the pictures below. If behind the scenes is what rocks your cinematic boat, I strongly recommend visiting the site’s Road to the Oscars series hosted by The Bachelor’s Chris Harrison. Here you’ll see engaging videos of Academy members discussing their favorite nominee films, actors, scenes and loads more.
Since the Red Carpet ritual is THE Oscars highlight for many of us, it’s important to note that Oscar.com has got you covered. Not only will you be able to know exactly who wears what, but the site’s partnership with Facebook allows you to get live updates from the Red Carpet, as Hollywood’s stars do their walks of fame on the majestic crimson path.
All My Faves has a special Oscar bonus for you: the Oscar Mini Faves. Already including Oscar.com, this special Mini Faves user has everything you’ll possibly need to be ready for this coming Sunday’s Academy Awards ceremony. Check it out here and enjoy!

Ruba – Thanks to the all mighty Web, finding travel data is a no-brainer. The trick is to sieve through the infinite number of tips, reviews and other information out there. Ruba is a killer facilitator in that respect, offering complete travel guides to tourists who are seeking the best trip possible. What do I mean by ‘complete guides’? Well, according to Ruba, “guides are collections of the best places including attractions, activities, lodging, restaurants, and more that are grouped along interesting themes.” These themes span across the entire holiday spectrum, and include intriguing categories such as Best Restaurants in Moscow, Russia, Exotic Argentina and Brazil, and France’s Burgundy & Provence, among others.
Another way to explore remarkable Ruba would be via their various categories: Guides, Tours, Hotels, Restaurants, Attractions or All of the above. And if you’ve had a wonderful travel experience of your own and wish to share it, I encourage you to create a guide. To get your travel buds going, check out the pictures below from one of the Ruba guides to Thailand.
Household Hackers – When I was a child and had a birthday, my mother (a scientist) would bring all kinds of liquids from the lab, and would use her chemistry know-how to put on the magician hat for us kids. She would combine mysterious white solutions together that resulted in a thrilling shiny red liquid. For a crowd of 3 year-olds, this was nothing short of astounding, and we clapped our hands like there was no tomorrow… I am sure my mom enjoyed playing the magician as much as we did, but let’s be honest; it’s not by any means science taken to the extreme.
On the other hand, Dylan, the guy behind Household Hackers, is a hardcore magician in my book, taking his scientific knowledge to the extreme. He has created a one-stop-place for numerous cool hacks, most of which can be performed using the everyday common supplies and tools found in every household (not this one). Want an example of a simple one? Start with the video below. All you need is a nail polish remover and a Styrofoam cup.
AdFreak – Concepts of commercials, whether on TV or online, don’t spring into being out of nowhere. There is a close connection between our society and our collective values, and the product or lifestyle ads are trying to sell us. AdFreak is the best venue to discuss the relations between culture and advertisement. The site offers superb content and excellent post-mortem analysis of contemporary commercials.
Edited by Tim Nudd, AdFreak provides “the best and worst of advertising, marketing, pop culture and more.” I found this blog to be extremely engaging and spot on in most points made. Although AdFreak targets the audience of marketing and advertising professionals, laypersons such as me and you could easily find great interest in this highly recommended blog. This is one of my favorites posts, concerning a video ad produced by the renowned Gia Coppola.
