InTheMo – This smart video-based recommendation guide claims to be “the first worldwide city guide that learns what you like.” Basically the InTheMo system ‘learns’ what you’re into by keeping track of your clicks in the site, and suggesting city spots that suit your taste and preferences.
The concept behind InTheMo is creating a community of ‘local experts’ who define and share the location of cool spots worldwide (covering 576 cities in 16 different countries). How do videos fit in exactly? Well, according to InTheMo’s press release from Nov 22, 2010, “the site uses documentary style video to share the stories and personalities behind these businesses” (PR Newswire). To start exploring the video recommendations at InTheMo, I suggest diving into the Best Of Lists -most recommended spots- and be sure to pick your city (right under the InTheMo logo on the top left). Now let the video fun begin; click Videos and see InTheMo’s visual guide in action.
In order for the InTheMo system to learn more about the activities and attractions you are likely to love, sign in (I used my Facebook account for that), pick your city and start ‘Recing’ your favorite city spots (as in Rec for recommendation), while specifying the degree of interest in percentages, from 50% to 100%. Picking 15 Recs is a good starting point for InTheMo’s system to know what other spots it can recommend you. InTheMo is a fun and interesting service worth checking out. Here’s a screen shot of the Rec It options I chose from.
Uwall.tv – What an original approach to music consumption and discovery! Uwall.tv’s homepage is amazing in and of itself -see the screen shot below. Simply pick an artist or band from the hundreds of thmbnail images on the page, or simply type in your artist of choice into the search box.
I couldn’t find my favorite, Nina Simone on the Uwall.tv homepage, so I used the search box and voila, here’s what happened (see below). It’s an instant mini player, showing the top music videos of Nina – YouTube videos of all her top hits. The Uwall.tv service is simple, extremely rewarding and beautiful to look at. Sounds like a classic Weekly Fave.

Yes, she does that, too! Enjoy.
YouTube Rewind – Every year YouTube recaps the most viral, influential and most viewed videos online. This year, under the Rewind title, YouTube nicely showcases the videos that made the most buzz on the Web in 2010. You can choose between the Most Watched Videos of the Year, Most Watched Music Videos, or explore the Fastest Rising Search Terms (kind of like Google Trends for YouTube).
I loved the visual video-based time line display of the “moments that defined 2010” (shown below). YouTube also wants you to join the discussion, so just below the time line you’ll see log in options via Facebook, Twitter and YouTube. Log in and join the conversation. Another interesting feature I found here on YouTube Rewind is YouTube Trends (looks like someone read my thoughts…). Enjoy!
As Good As Gold – You are co-starring in this action packed movie trailer, right next to Benicio Del Toro and the lovely Caroline Correa, directed by Bryan Singer. What is the movie about? Oh, just Magnum Gold ice cream…
Upload a photo of yourself or use your webcam to make the experience complete, and see yourself in this cute trailer alongside Hollywood’s hottest stars. Enjoy.
Late Night – Experience music videos like never before with this exciting Late Night gem by Doritos. Although Rihanna is the most prominent star here, her video is not the only one worth exploring. Be sure to watch the others offered here, of bands from London, Sao Paulo, Brazil and other locations – you won’t be disappointed. The first screen shot is of the Late Night home screen, the second of the lovely 360 degree video by a cute Brazilian band. Simply play the video, click your mouse on any point on the screen and drag it to any direction. This way you will grasp the concept of an all-angle music video.
VYou – An innovative and fun idea that makes social interaction much more personal: “you record video responses to messages entered by friends and fans. VYou organizes their messages and your videos into conversations, making the experience feel continuously live even though the content is stored.” Still in beta, VYou offers a unique -and free- tool you ought to make use of, or at least try out.
The traditional concept of video chat is also available via VYou -there are over 55 topics by which you can find video conversation buddies- meaning all the other features I’ve mentioned above are sheer added value.
The VYou tool can be embedded and posted anywhere on the web, which gives it a creative spin in the realm of social interactions online.

Experts of the funny “Starring You” videos and photos, JibJab outdid themselves this year, with numerous Halloween e-Cards including your special appearance you can share with friends and family – all funny as hell.
Although the JibJab Sendables are perfect for the dress up holiday of Halloween, JibJab is perfect for sending funny e-Cards for practically any occasion; birthdays, graduation, anniversaries, thank you cards, you name it. Simply pick your favorite photo or video e-card starring you, and start making people laugh. The photo below is my customization of JibJab’s Pooch of Darkenss e-Card using the head photo of my favorite four-legged furry friend.
Google Demo Slam – Here’s yet another proof that Google is so different from any other corporate in history; they created an amazing platform for all the people around the world who want to show how creative they can get with using Google products. Each week, the Google Demo Slam will display two videos of individuals and groups of people who took a Google product or service to the next level. Users watch the two videos, choose the best one, and these votes determine the winner of that week’s demo slam.
This week both videos are creative and inspiring, but only one will be the winner. My personal favorite is shown below. Create your own Demo Slam with your friends, and maybe you will make it to the slam as well!
It Gets Better – This heart-warming and inspiring project founded by Dan Savage beautifully explains its mission on the top of its homepage: “Many LGBT youth can’t picture what their lives might be like as openly gay adults. They can’t imagine a future for themselves. So let’s show them what our lives are like, let’s show them what the future may hold in store for them.”
It Gets Better is a godsend haven for young lesbians, gays, bi-sexuals and transgenders who struggle to get the support and acceptance from their social environment, often from their own families. Although many Americans find it hard to acknowledge it, America is not yet liberal enough to accept its LGBT community, which makes the It Gets Better Project all the more crucial today. It is where openly gay adults happily share their own coming out experiences, as well as the hardships they have encountered and still encounter along the way. The take home message here lies in the Project’s title: It Gets Better! May it give power and strength to all the young LGBT out there!
The video below of True from the Seattle Quake is one particularly compelling story I wanted to share.
Mixergy – Created by the business master Andrew Warner, Mixergy is here to inspire ambitious entrepreneurs by providing a startup hub that is well-saturated with insightful and inspiring input of “experienced mentors.” Andrew’s huge business success -during his 20s- and experience inspired him to establish an easily accessible place that introduces you “to doers and thinkers whose ideas and stories are so powerful that just hearing them will change you.”
By holding live speaker events and including online interviews with big entrepreneur names such as Timothy Ferris, Gary Vaynerchuck, Paul Graham and Jimmy Wales, the bubbly Mixergy is all about sharing ideas, success stories and entrepreneurial how-to’s.
For an example of the fascinating content you will find on Mixergy, see the inspiring conversation in the online interview of Intern Queen’s Lauren Berger, talking about how to reach 100+ press hits.
Stanfield’s Presents “The Guy At Home In His Underwear” – How do you increase people’s awareness of testicular cancer? You let the good-spirited and easy going Mark, a testicular cancer survivor, spend 25 days straight wearing nothing but his undies, while the whole thing is documented live (camera, audio), 24/7, and everyone can watch.
The entire project is not only about increasing our awareness of testicular cancer; it’s about helping out: “If he [Mark} can get 25,000 followers, and last 25 days, Stanfield’s will donate $25,000 to the Canadian Cancer Society in support of testicular cancer awareness.” There are currently well over 35,000 followers and counting, which is great but not enough; Stanfield’s set a new goal – securing 50,000 followers will score even more $$ to the Society, $50,000 to be exact.
What are you waiting for? Hit the Like button and start watching Mark live. You should also check out the trailer video.
