Runtastic – Here’s a powerful fitness app that offers a bundle of sweet features. Runtastic offers the GPS-via-mobile, exercise logs and stats features, but so do most fitness apps these days. Where Runtastic really shines is in its real-time cheers from Facebook friends joggers, cyclists and hikers receive while out, pushing their bodies to the fitness limit.
Added Runtastic perks include finding tracks and routes in your area, tracking your weight, and sharing your progress on Facebook and Twitter, among others. Many will also be happy to learn Runtastic offers apps that work with Garmin sport watches. Runtastic is available on the iPhone, Android, Blackberry and Windows 7. So next time you go out for a run or a ride, rethink your app usage. Runtastic is a personally rewarding app that really pays off to use.

TaskRabbit – Our hectic weeks these days don’t leave much time for those small errands we need to do, and we end up putting those off for the weekend, right? No more. TaskRabbit is a sweet community of reliable runners who willingly (and for a reasonable fee of course) run your errands, deliver supermarket purchases or whatever else you need done, for you.
TaskRabbit works by matching task posts and background-checked runners able and ready to do the task. When posting a task, the user will specify how much he or she is willing to pay for it, and commits to that sum. This way, runners know beforehand what’s the compensation, and the system will make sure the runner is paid once the task is closed (complete) by its creator. Want to meet some of the TaskRabbit runners? See them here.
The TaskRabbit service is currently offered in Boston, NYC, Orange County CA, San Francisco Bay Area and Los Angeles, although more locations will be available soon including Chicago, Portland and Seattle. Want to become a TaskRabbit runner yourself? Click here. TaskRabbit is a terrific idea – we loved it!
Threewords.me – The idea of this unique site is simple. Sign up, send your friends your threewords.me link and see how they describe you (anonymously) using just three words. I guess this is a decent way to get an honest opinion about oneself, and I’m sure many people would love to use it. However, if I were clueless or curious about how I’m perceived by my friends, I would simply ask them face to face instead of using a third party in the form of cold technology. But that’s just me.
Trip Your Face – This brilliant interactive campaign by Hotels.com invites users to experience the “what happens in [city] stays in [city]” for themselves in a whimsical and well-made adventure.

GoRankem – I’m always on the lookout for new music and artists, and thanks to an abundance of music discovery tools online virtually anyone can expand their music repertoire. GoRankem is yet another music discovery player offering honest artist recommendations based on the taste of artists’ fans. The active contribution of users is what propels GoRankem, and I much prefer the suggestions of true fans than being handed down the ‘check this out’ of doubtful taste makers (i.e. music sites’ founders).
To see GoRankem in action, and as my personal tribute to the recently deceased singer, here’s the artist page of Amy Winehouse who passed away last Saturday. I found some interesting similar artists thanks to GoRankem’s user rating system.
Pictarine – Storing and sharing photos these days is possible via Google’s Picasa, Facebook, Flickr and other photo hosting sites. The obvious question is how come there isn’t a single venue online that allows you to import all of your photos from various social networks and other locations to a single place? One that is easy to use, doesn’t require monthly payments to store your albums? Say hello to Pictarine, the site that invites you to “manage and share all your photos, whether they are on Flickr, Facebook, Picasa, Twitter, Instagram, your computer, your camera, and even your mobile. You can finally enjoy and share your photos the way you want in one place.”
In addition to storing and sharing photos, Pictarine offers a sociability feature whereby users can create ‘zests’ – a sort of a photo-based status update that friends can comment on and add their own photo to. Pictarine takes the chaotic world of dispersed online photo storage locations, and brings these all together to make it better and more organized.
Mixing Reality – This fascinating and inspiring blog by Mixing Reality, a content creator and Web presence provider, seeks to find and share the meeting points of eco, art, trends and culture through social media. The end result of the company’s blog is an eclectic collection of design, art and innovation made by creative professionals all over the globe.
My favorite post on Mixing Reality serves as a wonderful example to the Mixing Reality state of mind, Reuse Project of the Day: Judith Klausner: Oreo Cameos. Can you believe these are made from America’s No. 1 cookie?
CardMunch – Networking is an absolute must these days, but it comes with an inevitable nuisance: storing all those business cards we are constantly accumulating can be a hassle, not to mention the time wasted when searching for a specific contact from the stack. CardMunch is a time and tree-saving app that makes business card management a breeze. Using your mobile phone’s camera, CardMunch -powered by LinkedIn- takes a snapshot of the business card, and automatically extracts and stores the person’s contact info right into your mobile device. It doesn’t get any easier than this.
In addition to its business card storage functionality, CardMunch automatically saves the business card image, and offers instant invite to that CEO or important gatekeeper you just met and exchanged cards with to maximize the networking opportunity. And if you’re worried about accidentally deleting an important contact, don’t worry. CardMunch backs up all the contacts you’ve added with the app on your Web account. Simply log in and recover all of your contacts.
Card Munch is currently available for the iPhone for free, and will be offered to Blackberry users soon.
Loosecubes – Looking for an inspiring workspace or seeking to rent out your extra studio or desk? Loosecubes is an inventive community that pairs people who own extra work space with those who need it, and has thus far connected people in 357 cities in 48 different countries.
All community members must follow the oh-so-reasonable guidelines, just like the ones you would find on the global accommodation community AirBnb.com. Connecting to Loosecubes via Facebook means you get recommendations for work spaces from people you know. Moreover, the site’s system takes care of the entire reservation and payment process so you don’t have to worry about it. Loosecubes is a personal favorite and comes highly recommended! Here’s a gorgeous looking space available for coworking in East Williamsburg in Brooklyn, New York (NY). To learn more about how Loosecubes works, click here.
Beatlab – If you are an amateur DJ and like mixing your own beats, there are many online music creators you can make use of, and BeatLab is one of them. Create your own track with the site’s built-in music generator and explore great electronic music other users have concocted.
If you’re not sure where to start, I suggest kicking off the BeatLab experience with the site’s leaderboard section.

Tastebuds – Ever started dating a gorgeous man or a woman and had a great feeling he or she could be the one, only to discover the turn-off of mismatched music preferences? Music means so much to us on a daily basis, and it can say a lot about the people who choose one artist over another. Tastebuds tries to play the music card in the online dating scene, matching you up with men or women with the same musical taste as yours.
Start off by providing at least three of your favorite artists, specify your gender and sough-after sex, and Tastebuds will show you a list of relevant candidates. Sign up to get the site’s full service and start meeting new people you share something in common.
I did a quick search for men within my age range, in the USA (you can also search for singles in any other country), and received a list of possible dates. The interface is beautifully designed, which gives the proper presentation of listed singles even in the ‘quick preview’ screen made up of a decently sized photo and a short bio paragraph.
Although I’m happy I’ve already found my special someone, Tastebuds’ way of meeting new people is an out of the box approach I hope will catch on. And if you’re a single man or woman reading this post, what’s there to lose? Sign up to Tastebuds.
