The Purse Page – Falling into the Clutches of Fashion, Delightedly

pursepage The Purse Page – Last week I mentioned how much we appreciate and encourage recommendations. Well, this week we have yet another Weekly Fave that sprung from a recommendation we received from Erin Booker at Outblush. She gave us the tip of the Purse Page and we’re delighted she decided to share it with us. Both Outblush and the Purse Page are featured on our Women Mini Faves page, along with other juicy resources for the fairer sex.

The Purse Page is, in one word, fabulous. It’s updated frequently with excellent content any woman will appreciate, and the blog features designer bags and celebrity stars rocking those totes, clutches and wallets. I was so impressed with this blog that I sent my girlfriend an email with a link to three designs I was particularly impressed by (see them below). Her reaction said it all: “my boyfriend has exquisite taste.” Hope you will also find these as delightful as I did.

The Best of Us Challenge – Can you beat a Professional Athlete?

thebestofus The Best of Us Challenge – Have you ever thought you can beat a professional athlete? Even if your initial reaction is ‘yes,’ once you take into account the physical shape, years of practice and mental determination required, your rational side of the brain will most likely deter you from taking part in this futile faceoff. Well, now you can do it, in a surprising and unique kind of way.

The Best of Us Challenge is a website where Olympic athletes “are challenging YOU to compete against them.” To give an example, you can challenge Refael Nadal in how many tennis balls can you pick and hold in 30 seconds, Michael Phelps in Speed Putting or Shawn Johnson in Distance Egg Toss Challenge. The Challenge runs from 14 October to 28 February, and there are many prizes you can win, including a trip for two to the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games.

Today’s BIG Fail – Holy Shit!

todaysbigfail Today’s BIG Fail – Why is it that accidents, mishaps and simple missions gone wrong induce our roaring laughter? Let’s be honest; we often find the failures of others funny as hell. Today’s BIG Fail relies on the exact same notion, offering a variety of hilarious videos of accidents, crashes and shattered glasses all over the globe.

I enjoyed browsing the site using the Random button, and relished in numerous surprising moments of OMGs. By the way, after going through about twenty ‘failures,’ I realized the most common utterance people in the videos made was “Holy shit”! Below are my favorite fails that made me both laugh my butt off and feel sorry for the unfortunate stars…

Power Pinball – Get the Ball Rolling

powerpinball Power Pinball – If you haven’t seen the movie ‘Tommy,‘ then go and watch it; it’s a rock musical based on tracks by The Who, starring Tommy – a Pinball wizard. I enjoyed the movie so much that every time I hear the word pinball, I think of that great movie. Below is the video of my favorite song from the movie, paradoxically not performed by The Who (rather by Elton John).

In terms of the game itself, you should try out this super fun Power Pinball, offering cool power ups. Tag different groups of mushrooms to activate special modes, get huge bonuses and point streaks! For more Pinball games, check out All My Faves Games, where we have a designated faveline for pinball games.

DailyBooth – A Photo Hub for the Bold and Extrovert

dailybooth DailyBooth – The verb share has practically become a synonym for the Web’s social networking concept. Why is sharing so big? This article helps to explain the human factor behind this phenomenon. However, what people less talk about is the consequence of sharing information, photos and videos online; we are essentially invited to peep at other people’s lives. And most of us happily indulge ourselves in voyeurism, watching others -perhaps with their consent- but certainly without their knowledge.

Setting ethical issues aside, there’s no doubt social networking platforms are going to stick around for a (long) while. One particularly attractive fish in the global community’s pond is DailyBooth. A photo sharing platform where one can follow and be followed, DailyBooth offers a sizzling hub for swanky annotated pictures of cool people. A great way to start finding ‘follow-worthy’ people would be through the DailyBooth Live Map. This feature is “a real time map of the world that updates and zooms around when new members snap a picture.” Below you can find some of the pictures I found intriguing. Click on them to view the full profile.

I regularly visit the blogs of sites we feature here, and I would like to point out to an interesting post of the DailyBooth blog: How did you find dailybooth? This prompted me to share (that’s right, share!) the video below. I just love hearing people speak with a British accent…

Spreeder – Faster is Better

spreeder Spreeder – There are no advantages to eating faster, one should slow down and take the time to properly chew and consequently, digest the food. However, speed in other activities can be a blessing. Reading faster for example can seriously improve your life – just think about the amount of information you read on a daily basis. According to an article written by David Aylwin, “People now spend an average of 6 hours a day reading at work – 6 years ago it was about 4.” That’s quite a bit, and it doesn’t take into account magazines, newspapers and books we consume before or after working hours.

If you are interested in reading faster, Spreeder is an excellent starting point. What is it exactly? “Spreeder is an online speed reading utility to help train you to read faster. It does this by flashing words at a rapid rate.” I suggest you begin with the tutorial and then take it out for a test run. My personal recommendation would be using a song’s text, because that way you will not only learn to read faster, but you will achieve higher retention of the song’s meaning and ideas. I tried this service with Jay-Z’s new song, Empire State of Mind. Click here for the lyrics. Since I love this song so much, I provided the video below for your enjoyment.

UniqueDaily – Unconventional Entertainment

uniquedaily Unique Daily – A couple of months ago we launched our new blogs page, and also created a personal Mini Faves user page celebrating the best of each blog faveline. In addition, we contacted the featured blogs and asked them to suggest their best picks in each respective category. Nahum Dam, creator of Oddee.com – listed on the Off Beat Mini Faves page – responded with his suggestion of UniqueDaily. That’s how we learned of this super cool blog. We love interacting with our users and creators of featured sites on All My Faves; we love to hear your thoughts and what sites rock your boat. Rest assured, we thoroughly examine each and every recommendation, and if we feel it’s worth a spot we feature it. So what are you waiting for? Contact us with your suggestions.

Back to UniqueDaily, this is a blog offering a different kind of entertainment. You will find here “unique content found on the wacky internets” – or in other words, articles, photos and videos of obscure and unconventional things. This is quite different than the kind of entertainment one will find on EW.com. Below are two of my favorite posts.

Machinarium – Cute and Adventurous Robot on a Quest

machinarium Machinarium – If I had to describe Machinarium in one word, it would be an impossible task; I can think of so many superlatives for it, so here you go: this game is awesome, fascinating, incredible, intriguing, exciting, marvelous, prodigious, shocking, stunning, surprising, unbelievable, wonderful. Is it really that good? The answer is, without a doubt, YES. Start with the demo, it will give you at least 15 minutes of breathtaking enjoyment. Below are some pictures that will give you an idea of what’s to come. By the way, this is a clickable game, meaning you need to click, click, click to get to the next stage. Enjoy!

Bubble Guinea Pop – Rescue the Animals using Snakes, Bubble Gum, and Bossa Nova!

bubbleguineapop Bubble Guinea PigsPlease forgive my next statement, but this is such a stupid game. However stupid it may be, it is also so much fun and addicting. The plot is as follows: the animals have been stolen from the zoo. Only the Guinea Pigs remain. Help them rescue the animals using Snakes, Bubble Gum, and Bossa Nova! For daily updates of cool new games, join our facebook AllMyGames page.

Tripwolf – Globetrotting Both Worlds

tripwolf Tripwolf – What makes a good travel website stand out from the rest? High resolution photos? Informative and engaging content? Or maybe including geographic locations outside the Western mainstream? All of the factors above would, no doubt, make one hell of an online travel guide, and there is a fair number of such sites available on the Web (check out our Travel page for a variety of these). Nevertheless, there is one particular travel site that is truly unique and innovative: Tripwolf. It’s one of those sites which makes the whole much greater than the sum of its parts.

Why is it so special? Because Tripwolf “combines travel tips from professional travel writers with a vast collection of travel information, experiences and reviews from a worldwide community of thousands of travelers like you.” Isn’t that great? You get the best of both worlds: feedback from professional savvy travelers, and from regular people’s travel choices worldwide. To test Tripwolf’s service, I explored their take on Barcelona, which I visited last year. Well before our trip, my girlfriend and I researched the city’s attractions, and we got a general idea of which places we should visit.

As is the case with many first time tourists in Barcelona (however well-informed they may be), very soon we realized we couldn’t possibly visit all the sites on our check list. We had to skip Parc Guell for example, which was a bit of a disappointment. If we were to consult Tripwolf prior to our visit to Barcelona, we would have learned that the very same Parc was voted as the top Barcelona attraction by travelers…

Good Ecosystem – Harmony Granted

harmony Good Ecosystem – Do you wake up every day asking yourself ‘how can I make the world a better place?’ Let’s be brutally honest; most of us (including me) don’t even come near that question in the morning… That’s not to say this isn’t a most burning issue. It’s not that we don’t care, we simply already have quite a bit on our plate on any given day, and the easiest thing to do is to remain within that plate’s radius.

Here’s a great solution for those of you who want to pitch in without making any ‘sacrifices:’ Good Ecosystem offers an excellent ‘good doer’s’ starting point. A most vibrant and well designed visual informative platform, Good Ecosystem presents the crucial, boiled-down facts along with future acts that will be taken. One particular health goal I found interesting was this UN’s education mission. So what are you waiting for? It’s not going to cost you a dime or make you move an inch. Simply follow the Harmony Map Road.

Daily Squee – Ya Gotta See the Baby!

dailysquee Daily Squee – Why is it that animal offspring and young are always cute, no matter the species? To tell you the truth, I have no idea but according to this Happy News article, it’s not a coincidence that we like infants (both human and non-human). Daily Squee is a virtual shrine for cherishing all cute and small organisms out there, featuring wonderful photos that will make you grab the nearest pillow, hug it so gently and call it Cuddles… Start with the pictures below, my favorites, and you won’t be able to stop. If you know where this post’s title came from, I’ll let you cherish that moment once more – scroll down to the video below the pics.
