Code School teaches you to code from the comfort of your browser with video tutorials, programming challenges, and screencasts.
Codeschool teaches programming skills to students of all levels. The site offers courses in several programming languages, including Ruby, JavaScript, HTML/CSS, and even iOS. Codeschool differentiates itself from other online programming schools through its hands-on, learn-by-doing approach as well as its gamification. As you progress through certain courses on the site, you earn rewards and badges to complement your progress. The courses even operate like a video game, giving students a 15 minute screencast followed by a series of coding challenges that must be completed before moving on to the next level. To finish a course, you must unlock the final video.
Codeschool courses are able to be completed entirely from within your web browser. All of the interactive lessons and coding practice can be done from the browser, although they’re intended to have practical applications outside Chrome or Firefox in the future. The majority of the courses on Codeschool are free, and there are many of them. The site isn’t like many online coding schools, which typically offer just one or two introductory and/or advanced courses for each programming language. Codeschool has tons of courses within the “Ruby” category alone, ranging from “Try Ruby,” which teaches the basics of the languages, to “Rails for Zombies.” It truly offers a new approach to online programming courses.
