Monument Valley is an iPhone & iPad app that consists of a unique yet mesmerizing game.
Monument Valley is not your typical, simplistic iOS game. It’s just as simple and fun to use, but it’s way more enjoyable to look at. Each level is beautifully designed, offering what the app creators refer to as “impossible architecture.” As a player of the game, your task is to guide a princess through these structures. The only controls Monument Valley requires of you is to twist and drag the world in new directions in order to help the princess, named Ida, explore the various locations. This makes the game immediately understandable by gamers of all (or of no) skill levels. The result is a fantastical experience, with strange and unusual things happening along the entire route.
As the world shifts and changes every time you interact with it, so does the audio. Monument Valley was designed to be played while wearing headphones, and the use of earbuds or headphones definitely enhances the experience. Although the levels are intricately designed (and sometimes difficult to complete), there are currently only 10 of them offered. There’s also a price factor involved, as Monument Valley currently costs $3.99. Still, the app is worth a download simply to marvel at its amazing design. The art of the game is its most intriguing aspect, but the simplistic yet challenging game is an entertaining byproduct of that awesome design. It’s a well-developed game that’s worth the money if you want to spend some time navigating some unbelievably cool worlds.
