Prezi – Avant-Garde Presentations

Prezi – They say necessity is the mother of all inventions, and the guys at Prezi felt there was an urgent necessity to adopt a new approach when it comes to presentations. For the most part, conventional presentations revolve around slides and add-ins that often distract the viewer rather than keep him on track with the presentation’s main idea. What if the presentation was formed on a single interactive canvas, where the lecturer could easily zoom into and out from certain points of interest and emphasize others without needing to rely on separate slides?

Prezi is an innovative presentation platform that makes sure your underlining presentation objective is achieved; conveying an idea in a seamless flow from start to finish. The added bonus is that this presentation format makes the telling of a visual story to your audience possible, and therefore, has greater impact. As the Prezi team claims, they want to bring back the pleasure into creating presentations. There’s no doubt about it – creating presentations with Prezi is fun and will definitely motivate your creativity. The best way to grasp Prezi’s innovative concept would be via their showcase page. Here are my fave Prezi presentations: The Simpsons and BetaWorks (loved the quotes).

EmpowHer – Medical Home for Women

EmpowHer – EmpowHer is an online resource dedicated to helping women improve their health and well-being. EmpowHer provides up-to-date medical information, access to leading medical experts, and a devoted community of women who ask questions, share stories, and connect with one another in a safe and supportive environment.

According to EmpowHer’s About page, the site was founded by Michelle King Robson whose passion for health advocacy was rooted from her own very personal health nightmare. Following a complete hysterectomy some five years ago, Michelle was transformed from a highly active woman to being unable to function. She saw multiple doctors, suffered numerous hospitalizations and took nine different medications before getting the help she needed. As a result from her ‘bad experience’ she felt the net was lacking comprehensive health resources and therefore created EmpowHer which offers a “medical home” for women to discuss their most intimate health concerns. This is a most valuable medical resource for women all over, and I will definitely recommend it to the women in my life.

Dark Roasted Blend – Weird and Wonderful Coffee Breaks

Dark Roasted BlendAvi Abrams found himself spending most of his coffee breaks browsing the Internet, looking for great and unusual stuff. He decided to share his findings with others, and what a better way to do so than by blogging about it? Avi updates his blog on a daily basis, adding unconventional content highlighting the unusual and rare in a wide range of interesting fields such as technology, art and architecture. In addition, intriguing outstanding pictures add that special something to Dark Roasted Blend. Below are some of my favorites. Clicking on these will prompt many more of the same theme.

The Next Big Sound – Measuring Up with Music Stats

The Next Big Sound – The Next Big Sound (NBS) is based on the concept that the music industry has changed, and that success is now most accurately based on direct engagement with fans such as band followers on Twitter, or songs played on MySpace. This kind of web interactions can be accurately measured, reported and then utilized, all of which is included in the service The Next Big Sound provides. NBS continuously tracks the number of plays, views, fans, comments, mentions, and other key metrics for musical artists across major web properties, and by this determines who’s hot and who’s not. Want an example? I compared between Britney Spears, Pink, Christina Aguilera, and Beyoncé. Below is a video of the most popular artist of the four (according to NBS).

Alex White, one of the Co-Founders of The Next Big Sound, blogged about The Book Business vs. The Record Business, and provided a most interesting post on the big changes these two industries were and still are going through, and how these affect our consumption decisions.

Abduzeedo – Abducted by Design

AbduzeedoFabio Sasso is a graphic designer from Porto Alegre, Brazil. Sasso humbly describes his blog as “a channel for me to write down some ideas, experiments, news, and a lot of thing that I see online and probably will forget in a couple of months. Basically, it is an archive of my adventures online as a designer on a daily basis.” It might be his archive but for me, Abduzeedo is much more than that; it is an inspiring, colorful garden of web design flowers, including fascinating wallpapers and informative tutorials.

My Milk Toof – Breaking Free from Under the Pillow

My Milk Toof – Do you have an interesting tooth fairy story? Did you also use to tuck those kiddo teeth under your pillow in the hope of finding money the next morning? So did I. But what happened to the actual teeth? Where did they go? One possible explanation comes from Inhae, creator of My Milk Toof. Inhae makes those cute little teeth (called Ickle and Lardee) the center of her well designed photographs. Sounds odd? Perhaps, but it is also sweet and terribly cute… Check them out – start with the ones below.

BannerBlog – Where Banners Click

BannerBlog – I rarely click on banners because they usually lack appeal. But this isn’t the case with BannerBlog. BannerBlog features only top-notch banners, and you can be sure that the ones featured here deserve a click. The banners I liked the most include NFL, The Economist, Mortein – Insect Repellent and Stop Smoking. Which ones did you like?

Roll Roll Pirate – Get the Gold!

Roll Roll Pirate – Roll, roll, roll your pirate, gently across the screen. The object of the game is to recover all of Roll Pirate’s treasure. I really enjoyed this game and found the music relaxing, but if you are looking for a real challenge, try it while the song below is playing. I did and it drove me crazy. Don’t forget to check back every Wednesday for our Weekly Games.

It Is Monday – One Inspiring Moment, every Monday!

It Is Monday – Seven months ago the AllMyFaves team received the following notice from Roy Pessis: “I recently talked about how there are so many great inspiring videos on the Internet and how we should share them around. Taking a moment to think about these inspiring and unconventional ideas goes a long way for each of us. Ever since I started sending out the Thinking Moment  videos, I found myself sending them to more people who were interested in unique life-related ideas stemming from surprising angles. Therefore, I told myself, why not share them with the whole world?” This is pretty much the essence behind ItIsMonday.com – One inspiring moment every Monday, for the whole world to see.

Can you contribute? But of course! Send us an email with your video suggestion and we shall take it into consideration. Until then check out my favorite inspiring moments: Validation, Lost Generation and Go to the Ant, O Sluggard, Observe Her Ways and Be Wise.

Listia – Auctions of Free Stuff

ListiaListia is an auction site where you bid on other people’s items with virtual credits instead of real money. Get rid of stuff you don’t need anymore and find stuff you do want, for free. Every user gets $50 worth of free credits (500 credits in total) following the sign up and item listing. Want more credits? Refer Listia to your friends, sell your own stuff or buy more credits. Some of the things you can find here would be A 14lb bowling ball, Guitar Hero Wireless Guitar for PS2 or The Complete Fifth Season of THE SIMPSONS.

Personal comment: When reviewing this site I thought to myself that this is a cool idea worth my personal investigation. I signed up and received my free credits. I proceeded to bid on two products and then the problems began: the system accepted my bid and took my credits, but it didn’t display my bid correctly. Also, when I decided to cancel my bid, I couldn’t find anywhere on the site where to do it. I can only hope they will fix these mishaps in the future because overall, this is a really great idea.
