The Next Big Sound – Measuring Up with Music Stats

The Next Big Sound – The Next Big Sound (NBS) is based on the concept that the music industry has changed, and that success is now most accurately based on direct engagement with fans such as band followers on Twitter, or songs played on MySpace. This kind of web interactions can be accurately measured, reported and then utilized, all of which is included in the service The Next Big Sound provides. NBS continuously tracks the number of plays, views, fans, comments, mentions, and other key metrics for musical artists across major web properties, and by this determines who’s hot and who’s not. Want an example? I compared between Britney Spears, Pink, Christina Aguilera, and Beyoncé. Below is a video of the most popular artist of the four (according to NBS).

Alex White, one of the Co-Founders of The Next Big Sound, blogged about The Book Business vs. The Record Business, and provided a most interesting post on the big changes these two industries were and still are going through, and how these affect our consumption decisions.
