Lyrics Training – Learning new languages is never easy, but it’s certainly doable. There is always the conventional methods of textbooks, audiobooks, and a great number of websites (see our Languages faveline on the Education Page). All these options are excellent tools for language acquisition, but there is an even better facilitator out there for free: Lyrics Training. This amazing website (currently still in Beta) offers language learning through an attractive and effective interface, combining YouTube music videos and a dynamic lyrics board.
After you choose your desired language and level of difficulty, take your pick out of the offered videos and begin. As the video/song is playing, you’ll notice random spots of blank spaces on the lyrics board. That’s where the actual language learning comes into play on your part. And since practice makes perfect, learners develop comprehension, reading and writing skills all in one setting. Above all, Lyrics Training is fun-tastic! To get a sample of the Lyrics Training power, see this video, targeted at beginners in Italian.
Flying Mouse – If you are a T-shirt person but seek to guard some uniqueness, this website is the place for you. The FM 365 store is “the result of Flying Mouse’s (Hon Lam) Project of doing one design per day for a whole year! Every week there will be 7 new products available! These 7 new products will be available for a quick pre-sale at a lower price for the entire week and once the week ends there will be 7 newer products to replace them and so on.”
What happens if you find something from the T archive you like – can you still get it? The answer: “Once a week is over we stop printing those designs so be sure to get your favorites while you can! You can request a reprint on the design archive section of the site and we’ll print it when we reach a certain amount of requests.” In short, if you don’t want to miss on a good Tee, you should visit this cool site on a weekly basis. Below are some of my favorite ones.
Tweet Museum – Twitter (with 50 million tweets per day) is one of those sites that gave birth to a new site genre, resulting in the emergence of websites with a shared goal: enhance and complete the twitter experience. As a twitter user myself, I regularly use twitpic, tweetdeck, wefollow and bit.ly. Tweet Museum does touch on the Twitter phenomenon, but in a different way; it’s an artistic interpretation of tweets.
Illustrator Odessa Begay is inspired by tweets of famous people, and then proceeds to interpret them to a visual illustration (one illustration per week, every Tuesday). The artistic illustrations are nothing short of superb, and I think this has the potential of becoming the next pop culture movement. Perhaps I shall call it ‘twitter-culture.’ In any case, I am waiting for the MOMA exhibition of these art works. Below are my faves, and I invite you to try and guess who is the celebrity involved before clicking on it to reveal the answer. Enjoy!
Werd – Like many other metro-sexual lifestyle and gear blogs (such as Valet, Hypebeast and the like), Werd also caters to the men who wish to keep it sharp when it comes to attire, gear, grooming and living it up under any circumstances. I’m all for men who make an effort to look their best; it’s about time to be honest… Werd makes it easier than ever, offering both great posts on new products (from lotion to wheels), fashion trends, etc. and gift ideas for men by price ranges. I tried out their gift ideas for the price range $101-$250 and this is what they’ve offered. I think I’ll get the soccer ball for my boyfriend and the Tommyca Bicycle Radio for myself. See the pics of these below.
I Love that Photo – This inspiring photography magazine serves as a platform for emerging photographers to showcase their work, and share their visions and concepts. Creators of I Love that Photo explain: “We give photographers the opportunity to display their work on our site. This comes with a short interview and information about the photographer.” Pretty straightforward and totally true. See the photos below of participating photographers. Clicking on the photos will redirect you to the interview page of the magazine.
Record Tripping – Logic and thinking games are said to help enhance brain activity, analytical skills and memory. The All My Faves Games page offers a variety of such games if you’re interested. Record Tripping seeks to perfect users’ ‘thinking’ skills by offering an innovative logic game where the main problem solving tool is vinyl scratching. Come again? That’s right. Use the mouse scroll button to maneuver through the different stages of the game and see what happens.
Record Tripping is captivating, beautifully designed, and needless to say, executed meticulously. While you’re playing, you’ll enjoy some great music by the Gorillaz, Beck and other top notch artists. You simply must play this game, regardless of your age. This is for everyone.
4 Differences – Spot the 4 differences between each set of two seemingly identical images. Once you’ve identified all four differences, you’ll be immediately presented with the next set of ‘twin’ photos. This game is very enjoyable and highly addictive, but can be a bit frustrating if you don’t find the difference necessary to proceed. So for those of you who will be in need of some help, check out this walkthrough. If you enjoy our games why not join our I ♥ GAMES facebook fanpage for daily updates of the best games out there?

The Vancouver 2010 Olympic Games – Whenever I watch the Olympic Games -both summer and winter sessions- I’m always amazed anew by the physical capabilities of the participating athletes. More often than not, I see them as semi-gods on Earth, possessing magical performance powers of the human body. Personally I’m more fond of the Winter Olympic Games because it’s interesting to me how ice and snow have led to such a diverse spectrum of sport fields.
The Vancouver 2010 Olympic Games are no different, and the British Colombian location couldn’t have been a more appropriate spot for the sportive marvels of these competitions. NBC’s designated website for this year’s Winter Olympics is a wonderful resource, offering comprehensive up to the minute information, photos, videos, interviews and loads more on all that’s taking place this season. It’s a great place to visit and re-visit if you are unable to follow the various competitions on TV. And even if you are watching the Games on your tube, the NBC Olympics site is a great auxiliary source for info you won’t find anywhere else.
Although there are numerous thrilling videos and photos of precious Olympic moments on this site, I was excited to get a peep into the athletes’ village, and discover the comic take on some of the athletes not-so-good sense of style. Nevertheless, these are the Olympic Games after all, so here’s a photo that has Olympic written all over it (for the sake of tradition). Enjoy.
Google Buzz – Google Buzz was launched last week, and since then it has been receiving ample doses of criticism across the media board, relating to privacy issues. No need to repeat the feeding frenzy blogs, newspapers and all other media sharks engaged in on the matter. The bottom line is that Google made a big mistake, they apologized for it and are now fixing these privacy flaws. This Google Buzz post is my venue for sharing my personal experience with the new feature. In short, I am simply in love with this service.
So what is Google Buzz all about? According to Google, “Buzz is a new way to share updates, photos, videos and more, and start conversations about the things you find interesting.” I would describe it as a crossbreed between twitter and facebook. Having that said, I don’t think it will replace facebook anytime soon, but it definitely is a ‘twitter killer.’ It offers the same micro-blogging feature, plus additional intuitive and easy-to-use twists.
Here are the two Google Buzz features I found especially useful and rewarding:
1. When using the Buzz on your mobile, uploading a picture to your post or creating one from scratch is super easy. When you upload a picture on twitter – wait, you can’t upload any pictures on twitter (hint hint)… I need to use an outside service like twitpic.
2. When adding a link to Buzz, Google displays the pictures included in that link and asks you to choose the one you want to display (see this for an example). This makes adding a new Buzz more fun, informative and colorful. If you haven’t tried it yet, I encourage you to do so. It is pure fun.
To see Google Buzz in full blown action, I invite you all to follow our Google Buzz account. Even if you’re already following us on facebook and/or twitter, the Google Buzz is an entirely different experience. We will be honored if you decide to join us and stay up to date with the latest from All My Faves.
TVGorge – There are many sites that offer watching TV series and movies online for free. The big problem with these sites is that they usually see you, the user as their milking cow, and almost anywhere you click in the site leads you to an advertisement instead of the movie you want to see. The most decent one of the bunch (in terms of look, feel and fairness) is Hulu.com. The problems with Hulu are two-fold: users can view the content only if they’re within the US, and even though the Hulu library is quite extensive, it lacks a growing number of important (and popular) series.
So what is there to do? TVGorge to the rescue! This godsend is a well designed video aggregate, and offers the most popular series out there. The best part about TVGorge is that there are no viewing restrictions to non-US locations. Click on the images below to reach the respected episodes. Have fun!
Drawspace – Ever wish you knew how to draw but your best artistic representation of an object came out looking like a squished tomato? That’s my scenario in any case… The will is there, but I was never into going to drawing class and discuss arty theories and abstract definitions of color movement on canvas. I hold the highest respect for those who can and enjoy drawing, I’m just not that blessed I guess. Nonetheless, I was extremely surprised by Drawspace, which can help even the most inept illustrator (or painter wannabe) learn to draw like a pro.
Created by renowned artist, illustrator, art educator, curriculum designer and forensic artist (retired) Brenda Hoddinott, Drawspace is a down to earth, easy and fun to explore website that teaches laypersons all over the art of drawing. Hoddinott’s philosophy is “to focus primarily on the enjoyment aspects while gently introducing the technical and academic.” You can choose between beginner, intermediate and advanced tracks, and learn all there is to know about drawing in a stimulating and engaging manner. To give an example, see the picture below which explains the concept of proportions in the cutest possible way. And if you still believe art is a matter of talent, read this insightful article.
