Ana Somnia – This unique creative project is brought to us by Rostlaub, a Germany based team of creative professionals focused on ‘morbid beauty.’ I’m not going to tell you what Ana Somnia is about, but you can guess. Make sure your webcam is on…. Nighty night.
YouTube Play – This bi-annual Creative Video event is an amazing project of YouTube in collaboration with the Guggenheim Museum and HP, “to discover and showcase exceptional talent working in the ever-expanding realm of online video.” Users all over were invited to submit their unique creative video, and currently the Guggenheim has narrowed it down to the top 125 videos, displayed on the YouTube Play Channel.
As a means to track the technical and innovative advances of users on the Web, the YouTube Play event happens only once every two years, and this makes it all the more special and exciting. Out of the current 125 finalists, up to 20 will be chosen by a jury of art, design, film and video experts. These winners will be displayed at the Guggenheim museums (NY, Berlin, Venice and Bilbao, Spain) throughout October 2010.
Want to sample some or all of the 125 videos that made it to the list? Simply visit the YouTube Play Channel, or start with Some of My Dreams by Tadas Vidmantas (categorized as Narrative), below, that I especially adored.
The B-Roll – To me it seems almost impossible to pursue a different creative project every day, from start to finish, and also document it in a blog. But that is exactly what Charlie Visnic, a motion picture editor by day and creative DIY-er by night, does with B-Roll. One of the top three Weekly-Blog-turned-Weekly-Faves, the B-Roll is all about innovation, creativity and mesmerizing off-hours projects.
The project diversity on this blog is amazing, and I can only imagine the intelligence and handyman skills Charlie possesses. See the video below of the creative project for Day 191: Music Box Melody-Maker.

Makers Market – For those of you who already know Etsy and like the concept of directly buying art and accessories from the artist who made them, you should also add Makers Market to your list of artisan shopping. Makers Market is “a curated market place of wonderful science, tech and artistic creations created and sold directly by some of our favorite Makers from around the World. – From the creators of Make and Boing Boing.”
There are thousands of products here for sale, listed under categories such as tech, science, arts & crafts, home + life (my favorite), wearables, music, even services. Makers Market is a remarkable venue for all those geeky artists to show off their talent and sell their amazing creations. Great initiative, superb execution and gorgeous products make this site a personal favorite.
Wetpaint – Simply identified as a “custom-tailored [entertainment platform] for young women who love TV and fashion,” Wetpaint is first and foremost a content specialist web publisher that has put its foot down and decided to offer its first “property” in the entertainment content area, hence this superb Weekly Fave spot.
Since Wetpaint specializes in online content, I won’t be surprised if this particular entertainment venue will make you wish Wetpaint had covered other interest areas as well. With the intent of offering top and engaging content while inviting users to interact with each other, Wetpaint is exceptional; you’ll understand why the way you consume content on this site is remarkable compared to what’s already out there.
Browse the entertainment categories (TV shows, fashion, gossip, spoilers, photos, videos, TV stars) and enjoy well-written and edited, interesting articles, posts as well as videos and photos. In short, Wetpaint is most definitely a keeper. See Wetpaint’s Grey’s Anatomy page to learn more.
Scouting New York – The Scout (who wishes to remain anonymous) works as a film location scouter in the Big Apple, and if you read the blog’s About page, you’ll learn he or she has seen it all; basements and subway tunnels, luxury penthouses and former factories turned into residential apartments in Brooklyn.
This scouting job niche is very intriguing, and we’re lucky the Scout has decided to share his (or her) unusual findings with us. New York is not just a concrete jungle; it’s filled with gems if you know where to look. Thanks, Scout for sharing. And if you’re living in NY and have an interesting property you’d like to offer as a film shoot location, email the Scout: nycscout@gmail.com.
By the way, Scouting New York is the Weekly Blog that scored the most clicks, so that’s how it made it to last week’s Weekly Faves spot. Congrats Scout! Below are some pictures of the Weird Little House on Lafayette Street.
The Decorista – Interior design can be a blessing if it’s done right, and conversely, a terrible collection of mismatched items if you don’t know what you are doing. Thankfully, The Decorista, created by the professional and talented Ashlina, is here to help. Don’t rely solely on Ikea to make your home the beautifully designed crib you’re looking for. You’ll need the assistance of the creative eye on this one.
Ashlina gathers all the best and most inspiring interior design ideas on the Web and neatly presents them to her readers. I just love her taste and I can only wish I could have made my own apartment look like the photos you’ll find on the Decorista. Armed with a degree in interior design and experience of decorating people’s homes, Ashlina offers a decor gem worth exploring. See the photo below of Art + Room taken from Lona de Anna. Lovely!
Photography Served – Brought to us by the always satisfying Behance Network, Photography Served can only mean yet another form of visual bliss. The site describes itself as a collection of “fresh works from leading creative professionals,” and that’s a gross understatement. You will find nothing short of top notch, magazine quality photography here, and each photo is even more inspiring than the previous one.
Below are a couple of photos I was mesmerized by and wanted to share. In addition, I recommend exploring our Photography mini page for additional photography resources and how-to’s if you are interested.

Lotie – Probably one of the best and most talented illustrators on Earth, Lotie lives in and works from Paris. Her amazing works scored top notch campaigns such as Smart (the mini car), Absolut Vodka, Duplo, Ferrero (the chocolate), and many others. In fact, even France’s First Lady, Carla Bruni, paid for Lotie’s talent to promote herself.
So what would you imagine the website of a globally renowned illustrator to look like? Nothing short of amazing, and Lotie.com is exactly that. This is one of the most beautiful websites you’ll see for a while. Help yourself and explore the works of the virtuoso Lotie.

Artician – This truly is a superb free service for creative professionals. Offering to help you build your portfolio from scratch, Artician does it all with style and lets you customize your portfolio as much as you like thanks to the many presentation options available, including widgets, and loads more. For the most part, impressive online portfolio services cost $$, yet Artician offers its basic service plan for free (which is quite generous in terms of what you get for it), and there’s also the Artician Pro if you’re interested.
Either way I advise you to first take the Tour and explore the portfolio opportunities Artician has to offer. See the digital art work ‘Freedom’ below by Rgquarkup.
CreativeApplications.Net – With the aim of bringing together “applications that challenge the ways how we share and engage with information,” CreativeApplications.Net identifies the best creative apps out there, suitable for PCs, Mac, iPhone, iPad and other devices, and presents them to us in the most appealing way possible.
The slick interface and the terrific posts make CreativeApplications.Net a must stop for both creative professionals and savvy technology/Web users. See the uber-cool Sound Yeah post for an example of CreativeApplications.Net’s sweetness (click on the post’s photo below to read it).
1x.com – Claiming to be a photo community with a difference, 1x is definitely unique. Aside from the absolutely gorgeous photos showcased here (hundreds of them in every possible category), serious amateur as well as professional photographers are welcome to contribute and add their works. I was happy to find an eCard section on 1x, which totally leaves the usual electronic greeting card sources in the photography dust. See a couple of amazing photos I was blown away by, and these are just the tip of the 1x iceberg.
