Foodzie – We keep hearing how supporting our local economy -local businesses- is a beneficial way to minimize global warming and to help small businesses rid of the hardships of globalization. I’m a firm believer in buying produce at your nearest farmers market rather than at corporate chain store supermarkets. Foodzie is yet another small business supporter, connecting you with numerous small scale food producers and growers.
At Foodzie you can find cool gifts any foody will love, but it’s also the perfect place for you to sell your artisan food as well. It’s “an online marketplace where you can discover and buy food directly from small passionate food producers and growers.” Search for food goodies by category, gift, region or brand. I think I just found the perfect gift for my father’s B-Day: The Bourbon Sauce Trifecta Gift Set, a perfect match for my BBQ-obsessed dad!
TaskRabbit – Our hectic weeks these days don’t leave much time for those small errands we need to do, and we end up putting those off for the weekend, right? No more. TaskRabbit is a sweet community of reliable runners who willingly (and for a reasonable fee of course) run your errands, deliver supermarket purchases or whatever else you need done, for you.
TaskRabbit works by matching task posts and background-checked runners able and ready to do the task. When posting a task, the user will specify how much he or she is willing to pay for it, and commits to that sum. This way, runners know beforehand what’s the compensation, and the system will make sure the runner is paid once the task is closed (complete) by its creator. Want to meet some of the TaskRabbit runners? See them here.
The TaskRabbit service is currently offered in Boston, NYC, Orange County CA, San Francisco Bay Area and Los Angeles, although more locations will be available soon including Chicago, Portland and Seattle. Want to become a TaskRabbit runner yourself? Click here. TaskRabbit is a terrific idea – we loved it!
FastCustomer – Forget about those long minutes on the phone, waiting for a customer service representative to pick up on the other end and help you out. FastCustomer is a pain killer mobile app that takes out the hold from calling companies.
FastCustomer offers a free, 1-click process by which the company’s customer service rep calls you, not the other way around (the app has over 1600 companies in its database). This way you are ridden of the costly and annoying hassle of waiting for an actual person to talk to you. In addition, the app automatically saves these calls on your mobile’s recent calls list for simple future use.
What I like about this free app, aside from its obvious anger elimination aspect, is that it helps the companies you’re trying to reach in the first place, as well. Happier customers are better and more loyal customers. It’s a win-win situation. Available for the iPhone and Android devices.
CardMunch – Networking is an absolute must these days, but it comes with an inevitable nuisance: storing all those business cards we are constantly accumulating can be a hassle, not to mention the time wasted when searching for a specific contact from the stack. CardMunch is a time and tree-saving app that makes business card management a breeze. Using your mobile phone’s camera, CardMunch -powered by LinkedIn- takes a snapshot of the business card, and automatically extracts and stores the person’s contact info right into your mobile device. It doesn’t get any easier than this.
In addition to its business card storage functionality, CardMunch automatically saves the business card image, and offers instant invite to that CEO or important gatekeeper you just met and exchanged cards with to maximize the networking opportunity. And if you’re worried about accidentally deleting an important contact, don’t worry. CardMunch backs up all the contacts you’ve added with the app on your Web account. Simply log in and recover all of your contacts.
Card Munch is currently available for the iPhone for free, and will be offered to Blackberry users soon.
In today’s high-speed, multitasking life the Web is becoming an ever-present part of our life, a fact which entails benefits but also downsides. One of the most obvious examples of the latter is the wealth of information generated from different resources. The chaotic nature of dispersed resources can lead to confusion and disorientation rather than productivity. Business professionals, already having their hands (and minds) full with to-do’s, deadlines and company budgets, could use a single, easy to use venue where they can find all of the information they require or are interested in.

Worldtime Buddy – A most productive web-based app, Worldtime Buddy is particularly helpful to business professionals communicating with different cities and countries in different time zones. With Worldtime Buddy you can easily and painlessly schedule meetings between Los Angeles, Sydney and Paris without forcing anyone in these locations to stay late at the office, or worse, wake up super early, to attend that video conference call.
