Wag – Aside from its beautifully designed and user-friendly interface, Wag.com is an all-in-one pet supply store you should visit, whether you’re the proud parent of a dog, a cat, a parrot, a rabbit or a snake. Wag’s huge product collection has everything you and your pet could possibly need, whether it’s toys, medications, bedding or furniture.
Wag.com offers free shipping for all orders above $49 (US territories), and even if you don’t reach that amount, the store offers fast delivery of up to two business days. I’ve already explored Wag and I want to buy its entire cat department. And if you are like me, you, too, will be impressed to find a commendable eco-friendly product section on Wag.com.
Doggelganger – The Pedigree Adoption Drive in New Zealand came up with a genius project to encourage and increase dog adoptions in the Kiwi country. Together with NEC Technology, Pedigree’s Doggelganger offers a “human to canine pairing software.” What does that mean, exactly? It’s quite simple, really. All you have to do is upload a clear photo of your face (you can also take one with your webcam), make sure the Doggelganger’s face model matches your facial features and hit Begin.
Now the fun begins. The software will match your facial features with those of dogs available for adoption in New Zealand’s SPCA centers. Once a match is found, you’ll see the adorable dog’s face right next to yours. When you think about it, this creates an immediate emotional bond and an instant increase of both the dog’s exposure and the likelihood of finding these dogs a home. Pedigree should do this for the US crowd as well. Most definitely!
What do you think? They really do resemble one another, don’t they?
Animals Being Dicks – It turns out animals can be heartless bastards, too. This funny blog is dedicated to all those documented instances of animals being hilariously cruel to each other (don’t worry, there’s nothing fatal or bloody inside).
To give an example, here’s one cute and funny example called Wanna Go for a Dip? I’ve already seen it happen numerous times among young children at the pool:
This example was the lightest of the bunch, and you’ll come across some ‘no-it-didn’t!’ entries in Animals Being Dicks. Enjoy.
Will My Dog Hate Me? – Writer, editor and self-proclaimed ‘dog slave,’ Edie Jarolim is the talented blogger behind this winning Weekly Blog about man’s best friend. Right from the get-go you can tell Edie has a gift for writing, and the blog is filled with beautifully written and engaging posts canine owners will fall in love with.
Although Frankie is Edie’s first dog ever, you would have never known that by reading the blog alone. Find great tips, interesting facts and lots of funny dog photos and videos on Will My Dog Hate Me? Here’s one of my favorite posts I’m sure applies to all the dog owners out there seeking leaner doggy treats: Healthy & Economical Dog Treats.
Animal Jam – National Geographic Kids has come up with a brilliant idea to bring in young followers and nature learners. Animal Jam is essentially the animal kingdom with all its glory and engagement, wrapped up in a kid-friendly interface that’s beautiful and engaging. The result is an interactive game that teaches little ones about the wonders of nature with lots of fun and color.
Once your child has signed up (parents also receive an email concerning content), he or she can choose their animal character and name it (mine was Countess Snowyflower). Animal Jam then takes your child to the vast animal world via several different locations, each filled with short games, animal videos and fun facts. I wish I had this when I was a kid…
The Itty Bitty Kitty Committee – Working together with the Humane Society for Tacoma and Pierce County, WA. the IBKC has cleverly come up with a cool way to advertise the cats that are looking for good homes in the area. All photos on the blog are of the shelter’s cats that are currently staying with temporary foster homes until their adoption, or of adopted cats in their new home. If you are living in the area and willing to open your home to a loving furry friend, please contact the blog creators or make a donation.
OK. Without furthered ado, here are some cute pics of the lovely cats.
By the way, if you’re into cats, dogs and pets in general, why don’t you visit our Pets Mini Faves page? It’s cuteness all over!
Climate Central – This godsend independent nonprofit organization offers the public with all the content, reports and statistics you could possibly imagine on climate change, global warming and energy. Climate Central, acting as a central authoritative source for climate change information, is beautifully designed and truly offers a comprehensive look at the causes, consequences and by products of climate change.
Aside from breaking news, huge library and climopedia, Climate Central also offers a remarkable gallery section that takes the entire topic and understanding of climate change to a whole new level. The gallery offers amazing tools such as graphics, maps, microanimations and collections. See the More CO2, More Poison Ivy graphic below for the tip of Climate Central’s information iceberg.
In short, Climate Central is a most valuable resource to educators, scientists and professionals of the field, or simply curious laypersons such as you and me.
Life with Dogs – Created by Neil, Life with Dogs is here “to fetch the most interesting and relevant dog news and video for your consumption.” But that’s not all Life with Dogs is about. It’s also about drawing rescue stories, dogs up for adoption, and user stories into the canine lovers spotlight.
Keeping high levels of interest via diversified post topics, excellent photos and user participation, Neil does an amazing job in maintaining a blog that’s not just another dog enthusiast web diary. It’s compelling, funny, witty, political at times but all in good taste, spoken by a true animal lover. Great blog. I urge you to subscribe. If you are a dog owner yourself, you’re invited to submit your Fido’s pics and/or videos -check out the Submissions page.
Exploring the content on Life with Dogs led me to this interesting article on post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) in war dogs. It’s fascinating. Also be sure to watch the video below. It’s the most compelling story of an abandoned dog, saved by good people. The video below is part 2. To catch up with the 1st part, click here.
