Take Something Literally – I Give Up!

takesomething Take Something LiterallyTake Something Literally is a compilation of 25 enigmas. This game is an abstract, conceptual and original game. The rules are quite simple: take the hints literally and just think. The solution is always under your nose. By the way, if you find yourself struggling at any given stage, you may consult this walkthrough (I certainly did).

CastTV – Find Videos

casttv CastTV – A while ago we featured TVGorge as a Weekly Fave, but unfortunately their indexed content is no longer available. It seemed we had better get back to the free video streaming drawing board. But hey – we have CastTV! It’s a well organized video index, and it includes a plethora of sought-after TV content, from Brothers and Sisters to The Best of Megan Fox. Whatever you’re looking for, CastTV most probably has it. By the way, it seems that CastTV handled all the legal issues much better than TVGorge did, which is promising. The site’s been running for over a year now, which means they are probably doing things right.

Alice – Comprehensive Online Shopping, for the Home and Family

alice Alice – What do you buy online? Most of us use the Web to purchase flight tickets, electronic devices, clothing, shoes, books and DVDs. What about home supplies? For some reason, buying laundry detergent and toilet paper online doesn’t seem very realistic to me, but that’s out of habit. We’re used to drive to the supermarket for those home supplies, right? But that can change, and with Alice, the transition will be a happy, seamless one.

Alice has identified the shopping for the home faux-pas, and offers a solution: a one stop place for all our home essential needs, best prices and free shipping every time! In addition, Alice “automatically finds and applies coupons for you on thousands of products. A typical user finds $100’s in annual coupon savings without any extra work or newsprint hands.” So if you usually buy books, cameras and DVDs online, now is the time to give Alice a shot. It’s a worry-free, money saving experience everyone will appreciate, and it’s a free service. Need I say more?

PhotoDump – Photos Forever

photodump PhotoDump – PhotoDump strives “to be your daily source for funny, cool, interesting, and motivational photos!” Does it accomplish this goal? I believe so. I admire the site’s concept, and PhotoDump is well-executed. I especially enjoyed the Gif ones which aren’t actually photos, but more of a short repeated video. Below is a selection of my favorite ones.

Red and Blue Balls 2 – It Takes Two Baby!

redandblue

Red and Blue Balls 2 – The song It Takes Two by Marvin Gaye & Kim Weston is the best way I can think of to describe this game. The goal here is to navigate both balls to the end part, but you can’t navigate one without the other. It takes two to tango this one. This game is a whole lot of fun! I loved it. Enjoy.

On a different note, the song lyrics of the song I provided in the beginning of this post start with “One can have a dream, baby; two can make that dream so real.” This is so true. Just felt like sharing it …..

Sporcle – The ultimate Quiz Website

sporcle Sporcle – If you like solving quizzes then Sporcle is the place for you. I honestly think it’s the ultimate quiz website. Sporcle gives you blank lists in varied topics, and you have to the fill in the blanks within the time limit. The number of minutes in each quiz correlates to its level of difficulty. The ones I especially enjoyed were Name the movies that have the word ‘American’ in the title?, Name the human body parts beginning with each letter?, and my favorite: Name the games by their cupcake? As you can see, there is something here for everyone. This is, indeed, a challenging and fun website.

If you are a real quizzes freak and you take pleasure not only in solving them but also in creating them, Sporcle also offers you the platform for it. You can create your own quiz and share the link with your friends and family. If the Sporcle team thinks your quiz is good enough, they will publish it on their homepage.

What Happened in my Birth Year? – Quite a Bit, Actually

whathappenedin What Happened in my Birth Year? – The name of this website reveals its concept; it offers facts of what had happened in the year you were born. I assume that when visiting this website, you will react in either one of the following ways: you will love it and think it’s such a clever idea (I discovered so many interesting facts that occurred on my birth year).  Another option might be that you’ll resent it, and see it as lame and totally useless.

I must admit that at first I liked it, and totally enjoyed it. However, after submitting different birth years I got bored; it offered the same content, only for different years. I would have expected each year to be unique rather than a text template filled with data. Moreover, I was disappointed from the fact that each year started with the same opening sentence: “In (your year), the world was a different place.” It’s such a cliché… Despite my bad pointers though, I do recommend that you try it out. After all, we are all humans, and accordingly, we’re all curious about what had happened during the year of our birth.

PetaPixel – Everything About Photography

petapixel PetaPixel – The PetaPixel’s About Us indicates that it’s “a blog about photography geared towards tech-savvy digital photographers. Our goal is to inform, educate, and inspire in all things related to photography.” I think this is a bit misleading, because it implies that the site caters only to savvy digital photographers. I myself enjoy photography a lot, but I don’t see myself as a savvy one at all. Despite my amateur level, I truly enjoyed this blog.

Although PetaPixel’s About Us is a bit bland, I am sure that you, too (the not-so-savvy reader), will find it super interesting, and relish in its excellent posts. Posts I especially enjoyed include A Day in the Life of New York City, A Gigantic Rube Goldberg Machine, Dogs Filmed at 1000 Frames Per Second, Facity Documents the Faces of Cities and Time-Lapse Stroll Through Tokyo. Below are the respected videos from these posts. Enjoy (I know I did).

Mini Tower Defence – Fun, Guaranteed

minitd Mini Tower Defence – You may find many variations online of the Tower Defense game. The current one featured here even spells it with a C instead of an S. As it isn’t the first TD game I’ve played, I was intrigued to research the origins of the game – I searched it on Wikipedia and found that “Tower defense or TD is a subgenre of real-time strategy computer games. The goal is to try to stop enemies from crossing the map by building towers which shoot at them as they pass. Enemies and towers usually have varied abilities and costs. When an enemy is defeated, the player earns money or points, which are used to buy or upgrade towers.” But let’s set the history aside. This TD  version is one of the most enjoyable I’ve ever played, and I hope you like it too.

Avatara – Create a 3D Avatar

avatara

Avatara – This site is so much fun! I spent hours here, trying it out. Don’t confuse it with the movie Avatar because it has nothing to do with it. Avatara is a website where you can “create a true 3D avatar for your social network presence.” You can choose a premade one, create your own from scratch, or construct your clone. Needless to say, I have tried all of the above options. If you are looking for a fun pastime, I recommend trying it out. In the meantime, see the ones I created below. They are dancing, bowing, breathing, coughing or simply presenting themselves.

Guidespot – Guides Galore

guidespot Guidespot – Guidespot is a “collection of online guides created by a user just like you. Making a guide is simple, and gives you the freedom to create guides about anything and share them with the community, or privately with friends and family.” Name a topic, and you will find a related guide for it. I especially enjoyed reading the guides Elijay (A California Girl) created. Check out her What Movies Have You Walked Out Of? guide, and Flickr’s Funniest Pups guide.

TatMash – Tattoo Preview

tatmash TatMash – When I was younger I used to play with the idea of getting a tattoo, but I never went thought with it. Why? Mainly because I don’t like needles and pain, but also because I was afraid I wouldn’t be pleased with the result. Today I am not thinking about getting a tattoo anymore, but if I were, I’d defiantly like to see how it looks on the body first, and that is what TatMash is all about; previewing a tattoo on your body before actually getting it done at the tattoo parlor.

For the fun of it, I tried it out. I chose a tattoo and took a picture of myself using my webcam (btw you can also upload a picture). The result is below. I was quite happy with my test, but I’m still not getting a real tattoo…Do you think the lucky turtle suits me?
