Pixel Basher – Pixel Basher is a remix of the classic Breakout game play. This time you have to break apart retro block characters. I love the old school aspect of the game, but I still prefer playing this Breakout version. By the way, we are in the process of transferring all our games to our new Games design. Liquid Generation – Liquid Generation “has been corrupting the internet since 2000. We make funny, irreverent entertainment for web junkies and procrastinators of all types. From cartoons to videos, from games to online pranks, we do it all and we do it awesome.” Don’t be offended by the content here, they just want to make us laugh. I especially enjoyed Hollywood Farts, Oh My Gosh and 100 Greatest Movie Lines of All Time!
One in 8 Million – The Urban Dictionary has 16 definitions for the term “New Yorker” (warning: some are offensive). Half of the definitions here define a New Yorker in a positive light, as “Someone who has guts, brains, good looks, and the right attitude. Someone who is able to live in the greatest city on the face of the planet, in the center of the world, and enjoy it.” The other half on the other hand is less appreciative, including this one: “A New Yorker is an arrogant, primitive, money/pleasure-obsessed individual; irritable, angry and nasty type. A personality who doesn’t give a damn about others and only cares for his/her own well-fare.” I used to live in New York once and my personal definition for a New Yorker is this one: each New Yorker carries his or her own unique story, a very interesting story.
One in 8 Million (brought to us by the New York Times) has recognized this diverse individuality throughout the metropolis’ five boroughs, and has created a well designed website featuring stories of different New Yorkers. Each story is presented by an audio recording, accompanied by photos. I haven’t listened to all of them, but from the ones I have, I especially enjoyed Jesse Popp: The Struggling Stand-Up, Joshua Febres: The Uncertain Gang Member and Lolita Wolf: The Kinky Lover.
Cretique – Cretique is an inspiring place, a “daily updated blog committed to exhibiting the best works in Graphic Design, Photography, Fine Arts, Tech Gear, Style, Entertainment, Web Design, Illustration, Architecture, Film, Motion Graphics, Music Videos and more.” As you can see, it has something for everyone. I especially enjoyed 50 Incredible Digitally Restored Vintage Asian Ads, FedEx and Why Not? For more inspiring design blogs visit our Design page.
Bad Birds – Help the mischievous birds succeed in their escape from a maximum security prison by tasking each jailboard to dig, float and build like lemmings.
Autodesk Homestyler – Feeling the urge for redesigning your living room, kitchen or entire home? Hiring the services of an interior designer or architect is what you’d imagine will do the job, right? Not necessarily; thanks to the Web, you can do it all by yourself. Autodesk Homestyler is a great starting point for exactly such DIY projects. It takes into consideration that “interior design and home remodeling projects involve a lot of details and expensive choices. Autodesk Homestyler helps you jumpstart your home improvement project by making 2D and 3D home design easy enough for anyone. It’s free, completely web-based, and instantly accessible online.”
This amazing interactive tool is very easy to use and is extremely intuitive. Nevertheless, if you don’t really feel like putting the designer hat on, you can always check out the gallery section of the site, which has many ready-made designs you can choose from and be inspired by. Kitteh Roulette – You have probably heard of Chat Roulette and all the hype around it – it’s a website that offers you a random person to chat with via your webcam. Cool idea, isn’t it? What a shame that too many people are exploiting this terrific service (excessive nudity). But don’t worry! Kitteh Roulette is 100% safe, and is a delectable resource of random videos of cute adorable kittens and cats, each one more unique than the previous one. VernissageTV – According to the About Us page of VernissageTV, they take us right into “opening receptions (vernissages) of exhibitions and events. Online, worldwide, on demand. VernissageTV provides insight to the social side of the art world.” But that’s not all. The About Us intro ends with: “For you, Vernissage TV is talking with artists in a relaxed style.” I appreciate the fact that they have simplified things for us common and lay art lovers. I appreciate art but I’m no expert. Having that said, I still feel like sharing with you my artistic taste, so here are two favorite examples: Jean Nouvel: 100 11th Avenue, New York and Who’s Afraid of Red, Yellow and Blue?
Totem Breaker – The tribe “Coco-do-do,” while celebrating the harvest, found out that the neighboring tribe members were placing enemy totems everywhere on their land… Now your objective is to get rid of all strangers, to destroy the remaining totems and finally to set your land free of the neighbors’ magic spell! By the way, if you are into exploring some real totems, check out the videos below which showcase a nice collection of these Native American art pieces.

Geocaching – This cool website “is a high-tech treasure hunting game played throughout the world by adventure seekers equipped with GPS devices. The basic idea is to locate hidden containers called, geocaches, outdoors and then share your experiences online.”
When I first heard of this concept my response was that this is a cool idea, but it will only work if people would really commit to it and actively participate. Despite my mild skepticism, Geocaching is alive and kicking; there are currently 1,036,739 active participants around the globe. So get your GPS and search for the treasure!
Year of Giving – The concept behind Year of Giving is simple; blog creator Reed gives $10 to a different person every day for a year, he interacts with the people and tells us their story. The goal of this blog is “not to change the lives of those with whom I come in contact. Let’s face it, $10 dollars is not going to change someone’s life in and of itself. I do believe, however, that the act of giving will hopefully inspire others to pursue the ideals that the French philosopher Auguste Comte envisioned when he coined the term “altruism.” Whether that comes in the form of someone who reads this blog and wants to embark on their own Year of Giving or someone who uses the $10 to help someone else out, the specific results are less important than the overall good that we can achieve together.”
If the About Us paragraph above paints you a picture of struggling people who need the money to get by, you should know Year of Giving isn’t that kind of blog. The majority of the stories here are of people who need something, yeah, but not $10 necessarily. I especially enjoyed reading Day 111 – Katy S.. Katy actually needs a bit more than $10; she needs $10,000 for financing a film project she is working on.
Tiger Woods PGA Tour – When the Tiger Woods scandal exploded, many of his endorsing advertisers were less than pleased of the whole ordeal, to say the least. Most of them released statements about their disapproval with Tiger’s ‘actions.’ A post on bnet.com published back in December was insidiously titled Tiger Woods’ Endorsement Deals Are Toast. But apparently not all advertisers have ditched Tiger. About a week ago, Nike released a controversial ad featuring the voice of his late father, Earl. So, does this mean Tiger’s been forgiven by the media and society? I guess it will still take time, but it seems that Woods is back, at least for now.
Whether you can find it in your heart to give Tiger Woods some slack or not, this PGA Tour game is a wonderful bundle of joy. The game is very well designed, intuitive and easy to play. Create your own personal player, interact with other users and join one of the various tournaments. I personally am not a big fan of golf, but I still enjoyed it very much. Therefore, I guess that you give it a shot as well, even if golf isn’t your cup of tea. If it is, then the PGA Tour game is an absolute must.
