Busuu is a free online language learning platform.
The web has made the world more connected, so it’s only natural that there are a wide variety of language-learning services out there. Whether you pay for a service like Rosetta Stone or spend your free time on Duolingo, it’s never been easier to learn another language. Busuu is yet another language-learning platform, and it takes a slightly different approach than comparable services. Rather than forcing you to dive in right away with new vocabulary terms and phrases, Busuu gives short lessons on key words. It then has you do exercises, like dragging German words to the correct translation or organizing a sentence by dragging the correct words in the right order.
Busuu also takes an approach to language instruction that should be familiar to users of Duolingo or Rosetta Stone. The site gives you a word along with a picture, and you have to choose the correct translation. A correct answer moves you forward through a nicely-laid out, game-like instructional program. You can also save certain words to your vocabulary list for further review. Busuu also has a social element, letting you chat and learn with other users. There’s a lengthy list of languages available to learn on Busuu — users can choose from English, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Japanese, Portugese, Russian, Turkish, Arabic, Chinese or Polish. It does, however, take a premium subscription in order to learn multiple languages at once (so choose wisely upon setting up your account). There’s never a bad time to start learning a language, so make use of the many resources out there and give Busuu a try.
