Dream on! Can This App Really Influence Your Dreams?

Dream:ON is a new iPhone app floating mystically around the appstore that – yes, really – claims it can influence your dreams! It’s actually a huge social, scientific experiment that aims to test whether we can manipulate our own subconscious to produce dreams that we want to have, simply by downloading and using a smartphone app (which you can download free via the Dream:ON app project website).

How does Dream:ON work? And does it actually work!?

The idea of being able to go to bed, knowing that you’re about to spend 7 blissful hours flying around saving the Earth, or strolling down a sandy beach at sunset with the love of your life, is rather appealing if you ask us. But is it really possible? Does Dream:ON actually deliver on its claim to help you influence your own dreams, and how does it intend to do it?

Well, Dream:ON is a sleep monitor in an app. It figures out when you’ve entered the rapid eye movement (REM) stage of sleep – when most of our dreams occur – and then plays ‘audio soundscapes’ that your subconscious apparently responds to, designed to help create whatever dream you desire to have! According to the psychologist behind the app, Professor Richard Wiseman, “We still know relatively little about the science of dreaming and this app may provide a real breakthrough in changing how we dream, and record and track those dreams.” The key question of course is whether we will still know relatively little about the science of dreaming after using this app… although there’s certainly no harm in trying it out!
