NakedWines delivers monthly investors wine from independent winemakers at wholesale prices.
NakedWines delivers wines from independent winemakers and companies directly to consumers at wholesale prices. The site claims to offer prices from 40%-60% cheaper than the standard store prices. The best part of the whole deal? The wines are delivered straight to your door — in packs of 6 or 12 — along with a few samples of other wines for good measure. Unfortunately, the wine only delivers within the U.S., and not all 50 states are covered. Also, there are limitations and differences as to what wines you can purchase based on your location. Still, people in most locations should find something they like — the site has a large selection of reds, whites and everything in between.
Although the feature is currently closed, NakedWines also offers a chance for users to invest in winemakers along with the site. These users, to borrow a term from the start-up investment world, are called “Angels,” and they’re given a variety of benefits simply for investing $40 to the site each month. This is a smart way to keep cash flowing through the site while making the wines cheaper for everyone. It’s essentially crowd-funding for wine, with smaller amounts of money distributed to all winemakers in exchange for the wholesale purchase of several bottles each month. It’s a service that’s great for heavy wine drinkers with extra cash to spend, as it ensures that independent winemakers are supported while the bottles keep arriving at your door.
