SignSpotting – Funny Cues and Alerts Worldwide

Sign Spotting – Signs that mean well, but end up making you laugh is all what this site is about. As long as there will be poor English signs out there, we will keep on smiling. I suggest starting with exploring SignSpotting’s Most Popular section, and then continue to explore other categories. To submit your own photo of a sign worth sharing, click Submit. Here are my personal favorites:

The Old Photo Album – American History in Pictures

The Old Photo Album – Although this site’s photo gallery has more war and military pictures in the archive than any other category, the digital quality visuals here are mesmerising and intriguing. See American history and culture in a new way, through the camera lens, thanks to The Old Photo Album, a Weekly Blog winner. Here a couple of examples, American Civil War (part 12) and Jack Delano – City Life.

StreetPeeper – Spotting Well-Dressed People Around the World

Street Peeper – A winning Weekly Blog, Street Peeper is a fine Sartorialist counterpart, offering high definition photos of well-dressed men and and women (young and beautiful of course) in various global cities.

To explore the cool looks on StreetPeeper, simply click an image on the homepage – these are recent entries. Another option is viewing lookbooks by cities, or by typing a label name or style (i.e. Marc Jacobs) in StreetPeeper’s search box. Another option for checking out street fashion is through the news section. The person behind StreetPeeper and the camera is Phil, a style-savvy guy who started this project following what he calls a “variety of odd-jobs.” Here are a couple of looks I loved.

Moncler Jacket – Copenhagen, December 2008

Twisty Russian Lady – Paris, January 2011

Artist A Day – Bringing Attention and Exposure to Artists

Artist A Day – Although the Web makes us feel as though virtually anything can be found there, that’s not the case for many artists. Artist a Day brings “attention to artists that otherwise don’t get the attention they deserve,” by showcasing a couple of works of a new artist we would probably have never heard of if it wasn’t for this website. The idea is to introduce users to the artists, and direct them to the artists’ own website or portfolio online.

Artist a Day has an exquisite design as you would expect from an art website, and it also includes Top 5 and Recent artists lists worth checking out. Feel free to vote for your top art works and learn more about emerging new artists. Here are two images by Erik Johansson that I found here on Artist a Day. Here is Johansson’s website if you are interested.

Orangette – Delicious Food. Exquisite Writing.

Orangette – I just love it when a cooking blog is able to not only produce refreshing and inspiring recipes on a regular basis, but to keep doing it for years. The Web is full of cooking blogs, some of which are in my personal RSS list, but only a few are able to keep their top-notch content year in, year out. Ornagette is one of those selected few, and it scored lots of visits while it was featured as a Weekly Blog.

Written by the lovely Molly Wizenberg who has also published the fantastic book, A Homemade Life: Stories and Recipes from My Kitchen Table (Simon & Schuster, 2009, available at Amazon), Orangette’s first post was published back in 2004. The blog is packed with my favorite cooking blog must-have elements: beautifully written content, mouth-watering recipes, and stunning photos (taken by Molly herself!). See the pics below and click them to get to their respective posts: Whole Wheat Sablés with Cacao Nibs and Plum Crumble, respectively.

From Your Desks – How We Work, Looking at the Desk Itself

From Your Desks – Another Weekly Blog winner, From Your Desks is an inspiring website with a unique concept: “A working collaborative on the canvas of the desk. Both creative + everyday. Plus old work spaces, products and design ideas. Looking at the way we work.”

Every day a new post presents the desk/office environment of working professionals, some of whom you will know, others you will learn about for the first time. By examining the work space of each of these professionals, we get a glimpse of the intricate life of creative people; how they work, what inspires them, even what they enjoy the most in their desk’s surroundings.

Here are a couple of desk entries I found at From Your Desks. Click them to read the full post.

ABC News: Brisbane Floods Before and After – Amazing Aerial Photos

Brisbane Floods Before and After – The recent floods in Australia have hit the Brisbane area the hardest, leaving entire residential and commercial neighborhoods in a wet mess.  See the before and after photos for yourself, courtesy of ABC News, Australia. Simply hover your mouse courser over each photo to see the difference. Any additional commentary would be superfluous. Here’s an example of before and after the flood at Rocklea, Brisbane.

That Grape Juice – Freshly Squeezed Urban Pop Culture

That Grape Juice – Claiming to be one of the Web’s premier urban pop culture sites, That Grape Juice (or TGJ for short) offers a regularly updated source of entertainment, music, star interviews, reviews and much more. TGJ, a UK-based website  and a winning Weekly Blog here at All My Faves, delivers great content -text, photos and videos- and the end result is an entertaining update on the leading urban culture scene.

WIN! – The Fail Blog’s Flip Side

Fail Blog Win! – We’ve all visited the famous Fail blog at least a couple of times this past year, and why not? It’s hilarious and entertaining. Well, Cheezbuger has yet another successful blog out, the flip side to Fail: Win! Explore ‘right on’ situations where things simply make sense and make you laugh at the same time. See the two pics below of this Weekly Blog winner as examples.

Fashism – An Honest ‘How Do I Look?’ Response

Fashism – Ladies, we’ve all been there before. We put on a new dress, pants or top. We turn to our girlfriend or boyfriend/husband, asking “how do I look?” If a far too considerate, sugar-coated answer is what you’re getting instead of an honest response, Fashism is your solution. Founded by fashion columnist Brooke Moreland, and cleverly marketed by Ashley Granata, Fashism is here to give you a sincere feedback on your look or newly purchased apparel item.

Simply upload an image (you can do so via iPhone as well), and let the community have its say through ratings and comments. Although signing up to Fashism is extremely rewarding, you do not necessarily have to be a registered user to upload pics and get feedback on your look. Having an account though can earn you points which can bring you discounts and special offers, so why not register? Here are a couple of great looks I found here on Fashism.
