DeMilked – Serving Extra Strong Design Cocktails

DeMilked – A design milking magazine? Say what? DeMilked extract (as in the verb, milk) “the world’s most creative minds and make you tasty inspiration cocktails by mixing industrial design, technology, concepts, advertising and a little bit of web design.” DeMilked certainly lives up to this promise. It is filled with inspiring, beautiful and surprising posts, all accompanied by hi-res photos and insightful commentary.

My favorite post currently on DeMilked -even though I’ve already seen this elsewhere on the Web a couple of months ago- is 40 Clever and Creative Bus Top Advertisements. Can you guess who is the brand behind these cool pop-up ads? Click the images below to see the post in full and find out.

Doggelganger – Matching Dogs with Potential Adopters, Based on Facial Features

Doggelganger – The Pedigree Adoption Drive in New Zealand came up with a genius project to encourage and increase dog adoptions in the Kiwi country. Together with NEC Technology, Pedigree’s Doggelganger offers a “human to canine pairing software.” What does that mean, exactly? It’s quite simple, really. All you have to do is upload a clear photo of your face (you can also take one with your webcam), make sure the Doggelganger’s face model matches your facial features and hit Begin.

Now the fun begins. The software will match your facial features with those of dogs available for adoption in New Zealand’s SPCA centers. Once a match is found, you’ll see the adorable dog’s face right next to yours. When you think about it, this creates an immediate emotional bond and an instant increase of both the dog’s exposure and the likelihood of finding these dogs a home. Pedigree should do this for the US crowd as well. Most definitely!

What do you think? They really do resemble one another, don’t they?

How to be a Retronaut – The Photo-Based Time Machine

How to be a Retronaut – Tap into captivating time capsules in a variety of subjects, thanks to this super cool blog celebrating the wonder of history in digital form. The theme diversity of Retronaut makes it a genuinely encompassing experience in diving into the past right now, in the present. Discover rare photo collections of people and places in various contexts in Retronaut’s well-designed online time-machine.

See the two images below as wonderful examples. The first is an exceptional photo series from TIME magazine in the late 1950s, showing a photo shoot of Christian Dior in Soviet Russia. The second is a chic Polaroid of Sean Young and Rutger Hauer, the cast of Blade Runner (Ridley Scot film, 1982) took while on set. Olioboard – Create and Share Beautiful & Inspiring Moodboards

Olioboard – Since I had a hard time putting into words what Olioboard is about, here’s the site’s own description: “Olioboard is an easy and intuitive application for creating digital mood boards. It is also a community of interior designers and creative thinkers coming together to share inspiration and offer feedback.” Even if you’re not a designer but have an eye for aesthetics and a great looking decor, collect you favorite items, color swatches, fabric samples and other virtual items, and use them to create your own moodboard.

Each post is a moodboard someone has shared, and you can get lots of design ideas from each by scrolling down to the ‘get this look’ section. Here’s an example (click the image to get all the details).

If you’re a professional in the interior design field, make the most out of Olioboard. Get in touch with the community, take part in contests and even shop for your clients. What a wonderful source of vibrant and colorful inspirations for the home!

EcoGeek – The Bliss of Good Technology for the Environment

EcoGeek – The Weekly Blog winner of last week, this geeky yet awesome blog is devoted to “exploring the symbiosis between nature and technology.” EcoGeek is far from offering superficial, well-intentioned posts about making the planet a cleaner and better place. Far from it. The blog offers well-researched and well-written articles on pressing issues concerning the American nation and the world.

Here are a couple of examples of the posts you will find on EcoGeek. The first made me all warm and fuzzy inside since I’m an avid cyclist: Us Moving Forward on Bicycle Interstate Highway System. The second is a post announcing the terrific news concerning electronics waste:

EcoGeek is an environmental godsend, and I’d like to share with you the site’s call to action: “We’ve got to keep 6 billion people happy without destroying our planet. It’s the biggest challenge we’ve ever faced….but we’re taking it on. Are you with us?” Well, are you?

Lipton Infinite Trip – See How Far the Tea Bag Takes You

Lipton Infinite Trip – Enter the never ending, whimsical world of Lipton tea and explore a mesmerizing visual story that varies by your choice of tea. At the site’s homepage, select your Lipton of choice (from Earl Grey, Or Sri Lanka, Bombay Tchai and others), and see what happens. You will have to use your mouse’s scroll button to go forward or backward in your tea’s story.

I picked Lipton Exclusive Collection’s Bombay Tchai and this is but one image of the illustrated journey I was thrown into.

Come and join Lipton’s mind blowing experience, and make sure your volume is on. The music is just as enchanting. Although I seriously doubt Lipton’s tea is as powerful as this visual experience, this marketing card is most certainly the way to go.

Here’s one of my personal favorites, Little Miss Can’t Be Wrong. Isn’t it adorable?

Designers.MX – The Music That Fuels Creativity, Revealed

Designers.MX – The concept of this divine site is simple: it’s where creative designers share the music that keeps them going. Designers.MX is not just about superb playlists, it’s also about large doses of creative inspirations and revelations.

Although all entries on Designers.MX are inspiring, I suggest starting with the Popular section for guaranteed sweet music. Each playlist comes with a ‘built-in’ player so you can start listening instantly and enjoy the tunes that fuel industry professionals. I particularly enjoyed Kick the Day Off Right by Daniel Waldron. Click the screenshot below to get to Daniel’s playlist.

Flvrd – Sharing Online Points of Interest by Showing Them

Flvrd – This Photo-based social community is the spot where “flavors meet visuals.” As opposed to the photo sharing app Trover, the Weekly App we featured last week, Flvrd (pronounced “flavored”) is about sharing photos of online points of interest, not locations.

The basic idea behind Flvrd is to introduce users to interesting and entertaining videos, photos, posts and other online memes while inviting them to share their own online flavors with the rest of the Flvrd community. Here’s one Flvrd entry I wanted to share: Anti-Theft Lunch Bags by Andy91 via Tumblr. It’s genius!

Juxtapoz – Visual Arts Galore

Juxtapoz – Celebrating the various visual art forms, Juxtapose magazine -a Weekly Blog winner- is a beautiful website celebrating exceptional street art, illustrations, tattoos and graffiti. To truly discover what Juxtapoz magazine is about you have to see it. The magazine’s video section would be my recommended first stop. That’s where I found the video below, Kinect Graffiti by Jean-Christophe Naour.
