Hipster Puppies – Canine, Respect!

hipsterpuppies Hipster Puppies – According to Wikipedia, Hipster is “a slang term that first appeared in the 1940s, and was revived in the 1990s and 2000s often to describe types of young, recently-settled urban middle class adults and older teenagers with interests in non-mainstream fashion and culture.” So what is a Hipster Puppy? Exactly like the human kind, only belonging to the canine species. The difference is that I don’t think the dogs in the pictures below have had the freedom to choose the character of their depiction. By the way, do you think Hipster Puppies are necessarily owned by Hipsters (See Urban Dictionary definition), or maybe by hipster wannabes? And that is indeed a tricky question.

Household Hackers – WTF?

householdhacker Household Hackers – When I was a child and had a birthday, my mother (a scientist) would bring all kinds of liquids from the lab, and would use her chemistry know-how to put on the magician hat for us kids. She would combine mysterious white solutions together that resulted in a thrilling shiny red liquid. For a crowd of 3 year-olds, this was nothing short of astounding, and we clapped our hands like there was no tomorrow… I am sure my mom enjoyed playing the magician as much as we did, but let’s be honest; it’s not by any means science taken to the extreme.

On the other hand, Dylan, the guy behind Household Hackers, is a hardcore magician in my book, taking his scientific knowledge to the extreme. He has created a one-stop-place for numerous cool hacks, most of which can be performed using the everyday common supplies and tools found in every household (not this one). Want an example of a simple one? Start with the video below. All you need is a nail polish remover and a Styrofoam cup.

Flying Mouse 365 – Creative Cotton

flyingmouse Flying Mouse – If you are a T-shirt person but seek to guard some uniqueness, this website is the place for you. The FM 365 store is “the result of Flying Mouse’s (Hon Lam) Project of doing one design per day for a whole year! Every week there will be 7 new products available! These 7 new products will be available for a quick pre-sale at a lower price for the entire week and once the week ends there will be 7 newer products to replace them and so on.”

What happens if you find something from the T archive you like – can you still get it? The answer: “Once a week is over we stop printing those designs so be sure to get your favorites while you can! You can request a reprint on the design archive section of the site and we’ll print it when we reach a certain amount of requests.” In short, if you don’t want to miss on a good Tee, you should visit this cool site on a weekly basis. Below are some of my favorite ones.

Tweet Museum – A New Pop Culture Movement?

tweetmuseum Tweet Museum – Twitter (with 50 million tweets per day) is one of those sites that gave birth to a new site genre, resulting in the emergence of websites with a shared goal: enhance and complete the twitter experience. As a twitter user myself, I regularly use twitpic, tweetdeck, wefollow and bit.ly. Tweet Museum does touch on the Twitter phenomenon, but in a different way; it’s an artistic interpretation of tweets.

Illustrator Odessa Begay is inspired by tweets of famous people, and then proceeds to interpret them to a visual illustration (one illustration per week, every Tuesday). The artistic illustrations are nothing short of superb, and I think this has the potential of becoming the next pop culture movement. Perhaps I shall call it ‘twitter-culture.’ In any case, I am waiting for the MOMA exhibition of these art works. Below are my faves, and I invite you to try and guess who is the celebrity involved before clicking on it to reveal the answer. Enjoy!

Google Buzz – Bzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

googlebuzz Google Buzz – Google Buzz was launched last week, and since then it has been receiving ample doses of criticism across the media board, relating to privacy issues. No need to repeat the feeding frenzy blogs, newspapers and all other media sharks engaged in on the matter. The bottom line is that Google made a big mistake, they apologized for it and are now fixing these privacy flaws. This Google Buzz post is my venue for sharing my personal experience with the new feature. In short, I am simply in love with this service.

So what is Google Buzz all about? According to Google, “Buzz is a new way to share updates, photos, videos and more, and start conversations about the things you find interesting.” I would describe it as a crossbreed between twitter and facebook. Having that said, I don’t think it will replace facebook anytime soon, but it definitely is a ‘twitter killer.’ It offers the same micro-blogging feature, plus additional intuitive and easy-to-use twists.

Here are the two Google Buzz features I found especially useful and rewarding:

1. When using the Buzz on your mobile, uploading a picture to your post or creating one from scratch is super easy. When you upload a picture on twitter – wait, you can’t upload any pictures on twitter (hint hint)… I need to use an outside service like twitpic.

2. When adding a link to Buzz, Google displays the pictures included in that link and asks you to choose the one you want to display (see this for an example). This makes adding a new Buzz more fun, informative and colorful. If you haven’t tried it yet, I encourage you to do so. It is pure fun.

To see Google Buzz in full blown action, I invite you all to follow our Google Buzz account. Even if you’re already following us on facebook and/or twitter, the Google Buzz is an entirely different experience. We will be honored if you decide to join us and stay up to date with the latest from All My Faves.

TVGorge – Streaming Like Never Before

tvgorge TVGorge – There are many sites that offer watching TV series and movies online for free. The big problem with these sites is that they usually see you, the user as their milking cow, and almost anywhere you click in the site leads you to an advertisement instead of the movie you want to see. The most decent one of the bunch (in terms of look, feel and fairness) is Hulu.com. The problems with Hulu are two-fold: users can view the content only if they’re within the US, and even though the Hulu library is quite extensive, it lacks a growing number of important (and popular) series.

So what is there to do? TVGorge to the rescue! This godsend is a well designed video aggregate, and offers the most popular series out there. The best part about TVGorge is that there are no viewing restrictions to non-US locations. Click on the images below to reach the respected episodes. Have fun!

5-Second Films – Less is More

5secondfilms 5 Second Films – “Less is More” is the underlining premise of this website. It contains many short 5-second films, and is updated with a new one every weekday. The time frame of 5 seconds doesn’t allow the creator of the movie to bore you, and the result in most cases is intriguing and fun videos. I recommend starting with the ones below, and then click on the random button.

YouTube Ad Blitz 2010 – Best Super Bowl Ads

adblitz YouTube Ad Blitz 2010 – Usually when I watch TV and commercials are aired, I make use of that time to bring drinks or snacks from the kitchen, use the restrooms, or simply see what other channels have to offer in the meantime. But the Super Bowl is a totally different ballgame in that respect; I never move an inch when these prime time ads are showing. In pre-Internet days you’d have only one chance to see the Super Bowl ads – in real time as they were aired. Thanks to the wonderful powers of the Web, viewing these sought after ads takes MIA to a whole new level of thrill. I watched the ads during the game through YouTube Ad Blitz (they made the ad videos available immediately following their TV broadcast), but you can also find them on NFL FanHouse and CBS Sports.

Following the game, YouTube Ad Blitz was opened for user votes, and “the winning ad will receive ultimate video glory with YouTube homepage recognition on Feb 18,” so stay tuned. Another interesting voting system is the 2010 USA TODAY Ad Meter, which ranks the best commercials based on responses of a panel of ad viewers during the Super Bowl. The Ad Meter winner is Snickers. Below you’ll find the Ad Meter winner plus my personal favorites, Dodge and Doritos.

Another interesting point is that for the first time in its PR history, Google placed a TV commercial during the Super Bowl. Eric Schmidt, CEO of Google, said on the official Google blog that “We didn’t set out to do a Super Bowl ad, or even a TV ad for search. Our goal was simply to create a series of short online videos about our products and our users, and how they interact. But we liked this video so much, and it’s had such a positive reaction on YouTube, that we decided to share it with a wider audience.” Is that really the reason or maybe Google is afraid of facebook? You be the judge. In the meantime here’s the Google ad below.
