Young House Love – Sherry and John, a young married couple, have decided to take their first home experience and go public. Young and beautiful, Sherry and John document their renovation projects, their home, their baby daughter and everything in between.
This blog was a winner during its feature on the Weekly Blogs lineup, and reading a few posts on Young House Love will show you why. Excellent content, beautiful projects and that personal touch make this blog a must, even if you’re not house hunting anytime soon. We’re not the only ones who appreciate Young House Love; TV shows and magazines such as Real Simple, Do It Yourself and Better Homes have also taken interest in this young duo.
The picture below accompanies the lovely post The Benjamin Button-ization Of Our Style which I recommend reading. Enjoy it.
FriendShuffle – Where do you go to find out what your social network friends are into? For the most part, Facebook and Twitter, right? Well, now there’s a super-cool way to explore what your friends like, thanks to FriendShuffle.
Explore what your friends found interesting and admirable in a visual and direct way without any interruption of a middleman. Connect with either your Twitter or Facebook log in info, and hit the Shuffle button on the top right corner. This way you’ll not only be able to see what rocked your friends’ boat, but you will also be able to ‘like’ it as well, and expose the rest of your social network to interesting items and content. The concept is simple yet unique, and the execution is totally rewarding! See the screen shot below to see what one of my Facebook friends liked.
We Feel Fine – This most unusually creative and heart-warming project is brought to us by Jonathan Harris and Sep Kamvar, two amazingly creative and intelligent guys who decided to create a project where random sentences, statements and aphorisms are aggregated into one colorful and playful site. The result is truly amazing and awe-inspiring, and as Jonathan and Sep describe it, We Feel Fine is “a database of several million human feelings, increasing by 15,000 – 20,000 new feelings per day.”
To see an example, look at the screen shot below, although the project is very easy to explore; once the page has finished loading, simply click on a random dot and see what happens.
Youda Survivor – Your mission is to survive on this island by keeping the seagulls coming, drinking from your ponds and laying eggs -your island currency! Eggs will buy you all the tools you need to upgrade your survival, so attract as many birds as possible!

The children’s much anticipated holiday of candies and costumes is just around the corner, and we wanted to give you the heads up and suggest some interesting ideas. I honestly believe Halloween can be just as fun for grownups as it is for kids. For this reason, I would like to suggest our Halloween Mini Faves page, an all-in-one resource for the trick-or-treat holiday.
The Halloween Mini Faves page offers everything you could possibly need to make this holiday special and unforgettable; the most popular costumes people are searching for online (again, suitable both to children and adults), recipes in the holiday’s spirit, some great shopping deals, and of course, wonderful horror and scary games to check out! My personal Mini Faves pick is Jibjab’s hilarious Halloween site…
We would love to see what you have planned for Halloween 2010! Visit our Facebook fan page and post a photo of your costume for this year, or share with us what you plan on doing on October 31. In the meantime, here is a quick glance at the Halloween Mini Faves page.
Mixcloud – Finding and listening to free music online is a piece of cake, thanks to the various web radio services out there. Even video giant YouTube can be swayed to serve as an online playlist (although it has its drawbacks -continuous play is possible only via the queue). But think about how cool it would be if one place were to combine excellent filtered music -numerous genres- with educational, comedy, politics and other podcasts? Well, Mixcloud is here and it ‘cloudcasts’ all of the above.
The audio on Mixlcoud streams in super high quality, and the social aspect of the site lets you follow favorite DJs and podcasts. Oh, and it’s FREE! Need I say more? This is one of my favorite sites this month.
To learn more about what is Mixcloud and how it works, check out their About video. I also recommend tuning in to my current favorite playlist on Mixlcoud, United World Radio – Show #18 – Summer Grooves. Enjoy.
Mixergy – Created by the business master Andrew Warner, Mixergy is here to inspire ambitious entrepreneurs by providing a startup hub that is well-saturated with insightful and inspiring input of “experienced mentors.” Andrew’s huge business success -during his 20s- and experience inspired him to establish an easily accessible place that introduces you “to doers and thinkers whose ideas and stories are so powerful that just hearing them will change you.”
By holding live speaker events and including online interviews with big entrepreneur names such as Timothy Ferris, Gary Vaynerchuck, Paul Graham and Jimmy Wales, the bubbly Mixergy is all about sharing ideas, success stories and entrepreneurial how-to’s.
For an example of the fascinating content you will find on Mixergy, see the inspiring conversation in the online interview of Intern Queen’s Lauren Berger, talking about how to reach 100+ press hits.
Stanfield’s Presents “The Guy At Home In His Underwear” – How do you increase people’s awareness of testicular cancer? You let the good-spirited and easy going Mark, a testicular cancer survivor, spend 25 days straight wearing nothing but his undies, while the whole thing is documented live (camera, audio), 24/7, and everyone can watch.
The entire project is not only about increasing our awareness of testicular cancer; it’s about helping out: “If he [Mark} can get 25,000 followers, and last 25 days, Stanfield’s will donate $25,000 to the Canadian Cancer Society in support of testicular cancer awareness.” There are currently well over 35,000 followers and counting, which is great but not enough; Stanfield’s set a new goal – securing 50,000 followers will score even more $$ to the Society, $50,000 to be exact.
What are you waiting for? Hit the Like button and start watching Mark live. You should also check out the trailer video.
Gather – This site offers a totally different approach to staying up to date with what’s going on in the world and in our life. It is “the place where millions and millions of people come for fresh perspective on what’s happening now. Gather members can share their own views and join in conversation with others who share their interests.” Thanks to their broad network of talented freelance writers and dedicated members, Gather offers great content for over 15,000 (!) groups.
See this cool gardening group I found on Gather. I think I’ll join this group to get some much needed tips on how to keep my plants alive and well…
Design Mom – Motherhood, let’s face it, can be a messy ordeal, not to mention hectic and with very limited personal time. That didn’t prevent Gabrielle Blair -a mother of six- from keeping her design passion shining bright, and from finding those intersection points of motherhood and creativity.
Aside from sharing her personal family anecdotes, Gabrielle identifies those super stylish items any mother would crave and shares them in her blog. You will find posts on anything from fancy stationary to children’s party ideas, event seating plans, tips on motherhood and loads more. The blog was a winner Weekly Blog during its week, so it moved up to the Weekly Faves. It’s so pleasant to visit, read, and explore! Great job, Gabrielle.
Here’s a really cool idea I found on Design Mom, entitled “ABC Party.”
SodaHead – This online dialogue hub is described as “a dynamic discussion community where you can discover, debate and discuss issues that get you fired up.” Explore users’ submitted questions and discussions in various topics (news and politics, entertainment, science, lifestyle and humor), or start your own thread.
SodaHead is a nice break from the various Q&A sites out there. As you will see in the screen shot below, its look & feel, the added features and the large user community make it an appealing go-to site for all those curious and support-seeking souls out there.
Art in My Coffee – If you love real cappuccinos (and I’m not talking about Starbucks – sorry, it’s an Americanized version), you’re familiar with the dark brown patters that form on the froth when you get that steaming cup of cappuccino. Some baristas (the human coffee maker behind the espresso machine at the cafe) will let randomness take over the froth on top, while others elegantly maneuver the pouring of espresso over milk to create beutiful patterns.
Well, there’s a site wholly dedicated to coffee art, relishing those pine tree patters and so much more; what about teddy bears, even flowers? It’s all here. Enjoy these and my personal perfect cappuccino, below, provided by Mylar Bono.
