Craftaholics Anonymous – Linda, a sweet creative woman and a mother of two, created this blog as her means of channeling her obsession with crafts. This is her Web space for sharing her ideas, inviting others to do the same, and providing readers with an abundance of inspiring craftology activities. This is one of the Weekly Blog winners of course. Click the images below to see what posts I enjoyed the most on Craftaholics Anonymous.
Rock-Paper-Scissors: You vs. the Computer – This exciting feature by NY Times’ Science section online offers a unique Man vs. Machine spin that’s fun and engaging. Play Rock-Paper-Scissors against the computer, but be sure to do it at least five times in a row. As you play along the computer calculates the probabilities of your decision making. Who will prevail? Give it a try.
Art Finder – The social Web has penetrated an array of fields thus far; business, food, entertainment, music and education, just to name a few. But the realm of art remained rather distant until now, and Art Finder is here to make art discovery, enjoyment and sharing easier then ever.
You can start your art discovery by picking your ‘best looking’ paintings out of two series of four, based upon which Art Finder will create a guided art tour for you with recommendations suited to your taste. Art Finder is a god send since it not only brings top quality art to the masses, but also provides exposure to artists and their works from all over the world. If you’re new to art, start with Art Finder’s style guide or, start exploring the various featured artists on the site. Whatever you find can then be shared with your friends via Facebook and Twitter.

Philips Wake-Up Light – Living in extreme northern latitudes means going through several long months of complete darkness each year. That’s right, people go to sleep and wake up to what seems like night time, day in day out. Studies have shown that prolonged polar night can lead to depression in humans, and affects their day-time energy since the alarm clock is their only indication that a new day has come.
Philips have studied the effects of the polar night on people and initiated a fascinating experiment; the company handed out free Wake-Up Lights to the community of Longyearbyen, an arctic town in Norway living in a polar night of 11 weeks each year. This special light imitates gradual sunlight in the morning. This means a gradual wake up process rather than an abrupt (and rude) awakening from deep sleep with an alarm clock. What do you think happened? See the experiment video of the below to learn more. Amazing!
Interlocked – Use your mouse and space bar to move the interlocked blocks and break up the tangles. Beware; this is highly addictive and you will want to keep on going! If you’re completely stuck (literally), you can consult the walkthrough.

Sockroll – RSS. We all have it and read its feeds on a daily basis. Readers are great in terms of keeping us up to date on the latest posts and news from our favorite sites and blogs. But there’s no escape from telling the truth; most readers give a one-liner and stick to it, often at the expense of a fluid read. Sockroll counterattacks this issue, and I’m seriously considering ditching my Google Reader for good.
Presented in a newspaper-like layout, Sockroll offers a designated page for each of its categories (over 60 categories to choose from, including some non-mainstream ones such as Guy News, Programming, Religion, Weddings and loads more), listing posts in the order of publication time (most recent on top), and always including a visual item to accompany the post. Look for instance what Sockroll’s Fashion page looks like:
Another cool aspect of Sockroll is the interface’s appearance when reading a specific post. A semi-separate window opens up, showing you the full post in its respective site/blog page while keeping the Sockroll’s category page in the background. You can quickly close this window once you’re done and then go back to your main Sockroll page for more reads. Here’s what reading an Apartment Therapy post on Sockroll (on Home Design) looks like:
The end result is a pleasantly looking platform offering fluid reads and flexible skipping between topics. Plus, Sockroll takes the RSS subscription burden off of you and centralizes all the hot news of your chosen category in one place.
Socialeyes – This unique free social tool is essentially “a social video service that allows you to call your friends and meet new people.” Socialeyes is similar to the Video Chat Rounds Facebook app which we reviewed a couple of months ago, only that Socialeyes is a bit more flexible in terms of features. One obvious difference is that Socialeyes allows for multiple video messaging rather than limiting you to one-on-one conversations.
Another cool thing about Socialeyes is that firends using this service can send video messages to each other when not connected in real-time. It’s the answering machine of the digital age, packed with a whole series of social perks – all for free! Need I say more? Connect with Facebook and invite all your friends to join.
Top10 – Search from the hundreds if not thousands of Top10 lists available on this cute site, ranking just about anything you can think of. There are conventional, what-you-would-expect lists such as Top 10 Language Guides, but also surprising entries, such as Top 10 Austin Powers Moments, and this is just the tip of the Top10 iceberg.
Although browsing Top 10 lists other have created is entertaining -quite funny at times-there’s nothing like creating your own and mixing others’ lists! Don’t be shy now, do it now and add it to Top10’s list.
Beso – What seems to me like a smaller Amazon with a less ‘for the masses’ attitude, Beso is “the online shopping destination that allows you to browse products at thousands of stores – from big name retailers to exclusive boutiques to the shop around the corner just waiting to be discovered.” As opposed to Amazon, Beso finds you the items you are looking for and then directs you to that item’s store to make the purchase.
You will find here hundreds of the leading brands you trust and love, including The Gap, Macy’s, J. Crew, Guess, Ralph Lauren, True Religion, Crate & Barrel and many, many others. Beso is all about shopping finds for him, for her, for the home, even for the little ones in your family. I have my heart set on this dresses page. Now comes the hardest part; which one to choose?
EcoSquid – If you have an old gadget no longer in use, you already know that throwing it to the garbage is not an option. So, what are some of the options out there? Selling and recycling, mainly. If you are looking for either or both, EcoSquid is your solution.
Claiming to be an impartial source of information, EcoSquid shows you which places would give you the highest value, and which have the highest service rating in case you’re looking to sell. In case your old gadget is beyond recovery, EcoSquid will direct you to reliable donation/recycling entities for you to consider. Either way, EcoSquid’s mission is to help you “prolong the life of your electronics or responsibly dispose of them.” Here’s why you should use EcoSquid:
Great job, EcoSquid team! We like!
TVLine – This winning Weekly Blog is not just another TV entertainment site. Rather, it claims it’s here “to help TV enthusiasts cut through all the clutter and find a happy place where, more often than not, you will want to read most every post.”
