Salted features master chefs offering video instruction on how to cook.
Salted is an online, video-based cooking school. The site offers several different courses, each designed to teach you the skills necessary to cook a particular type of food. There are courses like “Introduction to Italian Cooking,” taught by chef instructors like Daniel Holzman, co-owner of The Meatball Shop. Other courses include “Thanksgiving Classics” and “Grilled Cheese Master Class.” The courses range in length, but the general idea is that you can learn how to prepare and cook an entire meal during a day. Each course has a specific list of equipment and ingredients that you’ll need before getting started, but after you’ve collected the right materials it’s as easy as watching the video and following along.
While there are plenty of courses designed for experienced cooks that just want to learn a new recipe or style of cooking, Salted also has a helpful “How To Cook Bootcamp.” It consists of an approximately hour long video that goes over the basics of cooking, helping you overcome any obstacles that you may have faced in the kitchen in the past. It’s taught by a few celebrity chefs — Holzman again, as well as Roy Choi, Jonathan Benno and Ralph Scamardella. Having familiar celebrity chefs as instructors gives Salted a huge advantage, as they’re talented at explaining how to best prepare a dish. The videos are also broken up into sections so you can view at your own pace. Although many of these videos are available for free preview, Salted does cost $9.99/month for full access to the entire library of courses. The quality of the videos is strong enough that that’s a relatively low price to pay for a cooking lesson.
