Kinsights: Advice-Sharing Network for Parents

Kinsights is a social network for parents, offering a platform for discussion, sharing stories, and offering child-raising advice to friends, neighbors and strangers.

Parenting Advice from a Community of Parents

Kinsights works similarly to open-ended forum-based sites such as Yahoo Answers or Quora, in which users can propose a question to the general public and await an answer. Questions on Kinsights, however, are limited to discussions of child health and safety, as well as general parenting advice. Sample questions found on the site include “what’s the best brand for a medical ID bracelet for kids” and “how do you educate your child about asthma?” The list of responses is displayed below each question, and there’s also the option for the person who asked to “accept” the answer or not.

Answers from Strangers, as well as People You Know and Trust

The best part of Kinsights is the community feel that it maintains. If you ask a question about dietary concerns for your child, for instance, the site will notify other users with children that have similar allergies, or experts on the topic. If you ask a question about a school in your area, Kinsights polls teachers and parents from the same school district. This offers a more direct, personal response than most platforms, in which users put potentially sensitive material online and allow anyone to respond. In addition to its question-and-answer platform, Kinsights also offers the ability to create an online version of your child’s health record. There’s also the ability to share and respond to “notes,” which are essentially like short blog posts written by Kinsights users. The site has a valuable mission of helping parents succeed together, and it should be used by anyone looking to be a part of the community.
