99Gamers is a free video game trading community that makes it easy to trade your unwanted video games for the ones you’ve always wanted.
99Gamers offers a free platform for gamers to trade their unused or unwanted video games with members of the same community. The site differs from other user-generated marketplaces in that games are not sold to other users for actual cash, but for a virtual currency called, simply, “coins.” Once you’ve sold a game and acquired coins, you can use those coins to buy back into the marketplace and find a new game. This element of the site, in which users can build up an account of coins to be exchanged for the reward of new games, should be familiar and appealing to gamers of all types. It’s a smart idea that’s perpetuated by a strong gaming community.
99Gamers is also completely free, and the money spent on the site is only redistributed amongst the community of gamers. Those selling games on the site do have to pay for shipping, but 99Gamers explains that that cost ultimately evens out if you use the site enough because shipping is always free for buyers. The site also forces its user base to participate in the community buy purchasing coins at the rate of $1 USD each, but that only ensures that the marketplace can continue operating. In terms of the actual content offered, there are games across all genres and platforms, including next-gen systems like PS4, Xbox One and Wii U. This could potentially be problematic for the community, as next-gen systems allow for direct downloads of games that can’t then be easily sold or traded. For now, however, the system works great for those that regularly play games and want to save on the costs of paying for them by joining the trading marketplace.
