Shut Up And Take My Money is an online store that compiles the best in the internet’s strange, geeky items.
‘Shut up and take my money’ was a phrase first uttered by Fry on Futurama, when he eagerly wanted to purchase an ‘eyePhone‘ despite warnings from a shop owner that the item had battery life and reception issues. The picture of Fry holding out a wad of cash quickly became a meme circulated throughout Reddit and other websites, and then it became a completely unrelated web store (although the store’s logo pays homage to the phrase’s origins by using Fry’s cash-wielding arm as its logo). The e-commerce store is straightforward with the way it conducts its business. Each product hosted on the site has a price displayed next to it as well as the location where a user could purchase the item (Amazon.com and ThinkGeek.com seem to be the main suppliers). Next to that, a blue box reads ‘Take My Money!’ At least the company is straightforward with what happens when you purchase an item.
For those that watch Futurama, the selection of items to which you can give your money in exchange for ownership on the site is unsurprising. When I first went to the site, the top item listed was a ‘Star Wars Darth Vader Self Stirring Mug’ that has a picture of Darth Vader and a caption that reads ‘The Force Is Strong With This One’ printed on the side. There’s also a ‘Thor Hammer Night Light’ and a ‘Doctor Who TARDIS Flask.’ In addition to the nerdy pop culture items, there are products such as ‘Ninja Knife Magnets’ and a ‘Chalkboard Beer Mug.’ For these and other similar items, Shut Up And Take My Money is a great site to peruse throughout the gift season. There are tons of ideas for things to give others on the site, as well as some things that you’ll probably want, too. You can sort the items by price and by category, one of which is ‘Beer/Wine’ and another which is simply titled ‘Bacon/Zombie.’ Yes, both live up to expectations.
