HowMutch – Putting a Price on Experiences

HowMutch – This simple and fun site focuses on one simple question: how much would you be willing to pay for extraordinary capabilities or experiences. These include flying to space, having X-Ray vision, and many other unusual things.

Once you submit your price you get to see the overall median price for that experience, the percentage of higher and lower bids other users had submitted for the same offer, additional stats in the form of aesthetically pleasing graphs, comments, etc. You are also invited to share your bid and the related info with your social network friends. HowMutch is straightforward, fun and social. I love it!

Baby Name Wizard – Destressing Those Who Are Expecting

Baby Name Wizard – When a new baby is on the way, naming him or her can be a daunting task; you want the name to have a deeper meaning, to make an impression, to reflect a noticeable quality or family tradition. If you are seeking for a little bit of creativity and inspiration than merely relying on the names of deceased relatives, Baby Name Wizard is here.

The Baby Name Wizard offers a comprehensive source for everything related to baby naming. You can simply search for names alphabetically, but I suggest digging deeper into the site; explore the NameVoyager, a colossal graphed database of the history and popularity of thousands of names (see screen shot below); check out the Namipedia, a name encyclopedia, and my favorite; the NameMapper, showing names’ popularity by state and year. Look at the lower screen shot for an example, using my favorite name for girls, Mia.

The Baby Name Wizard truly is a great resource to consult if you’re expecting a child. It sure makes things much easier and gives you one less thing to stress about.

We Feel Fine – Feeling Takes on Shapes, Colors and Words

We Feel Fine – This most unusually creative and heart-warming project is brought to us by Jonathan Harris and Sep Kamvar, two amazingly creative and intelligent guys who decided to create a project where random sentences, statements and aphorisms are aggregated into one colorful and playful site. The result is truly amazing and awe-inspiring, and as Jonathan and Sep describe it, We Feel Fine is “a database of several million human feelings, increasing by 15,000 – 20,000 new feelings per day.”

To see an example, look at the screen shot below, although the project is very easy to explore; once the page has finished loading, simply click on a random dot and see what happens.

All My Faves in the Halloween Spirit

The children’s much anticipated holiday of candies and costumes is just around the corner, and we wanted to give you the heads up and suggest some interesting ideas. I honestly believe Halloween can be just as fun for grownups as it is for kids. For this reason, I would like to suggest our Halloween Mini Faves page, an all-in-one resource for the trick-or-treat holiday.

The Halloween Mini Faves page offers everything you could possibly need to make this holiday special and unforgettable; the most popular costumes people are searching for online (again, suitable both to children and adults), recipes in the holiday’s spirit, some great shopping deals, and of course, wonderful horror and scary games to check out! My personal Mini Faves pick is Jibjab’s hilarious Halloween site

We would love to see what you have planned for Halloween 2010! Visit our Facebook fan page and post a photo of your costume for this year, or share with us what you plan on doing on October 31. In the meantime, here is a quick glance at the Halloween Mini Faves page.

Sodahead – Q&A Driven by Discussion and Community Feedback

SodaHead – This online dialogue hub is described as “a dynamic discussion community where you can discover, debate and discuss issues that get you fired up.” Explore users’ submitted questions and discussions in various topics (news and politics, entertainment, science, lifestyle and humor), or start your own thread.

SodaHead is a nice break from the various Q&A sites out there. As you will see in the screen shot below, its look & feel, the added features and the large user community make it an appealing go-to site for all those curious and support-seeking souls out there.

Art in My Coffee – One Cappucino; Dark, Frothy, with an Image on Top

Art in My Coffee – If you love real cappuccinos (and I’m not talking about Starbucks – sorry, it’s an Americanized version), you’re familiar with the dark brown patters that form on the froth when you get that steaming cup of cappuccino. Some baristas (the human coffee maker behind the espresso machine at the cafe) will let randomness take over the froth on top, while others elegantly maneuver the pouring of espresso over milk to create beutiful patterns.

Well, there’s a site wholly dedicated to coffee art, relishing those pine tree patters and so much more; what about teddy bears, even flowers? It’s all here. Enjoy these and my personal perfect cappuccino, below, provided by Mylar Bono.

MONET – Paris Exhibition Invite Brings the Water Lilies to You

MONET – When a French gallery decided to think light years outside of the art box for its new exhibition, it came up with this original and divine website celebrating the legendary Monet, father of impressionism and painted water lilies.

As soon as you enter the site of Galeries Nationales, Grand Palais, Paris, you will hear the soft piano tones that instill a calm atmosphere, making you feel as if you’re strolling in Monet’s famous garden on a lazy afternoon. Choose between exploring the painter’s work or learning about his life in the site’s amazing digital experience. I explored both. It was captivating.

By the way, if you will be in Paris before January 24, 2010, be sure to visit the Grand Palais to see Monet’s art masterpieces, up close and (almost) personal.

How Many Friends Do You Know? – Facebook Trivia

How Many Friends Do You Know? – How close are you (really) to all your friends on Facebook? If your friends list is under 80, there’s a good chance you’ll score high on this cool quiz. Then again, if you’re one of those users with 500+ facebook friends, get ready to sweat.

Once the quiz begins, you will be presented with random photos of your friends, and you will have to quickly type in that friend’s name. This is a lot of fun, and kind of puts the literal meaning of ‘friend’ in perspective…

LipDub.in – Make a Special Video to Your Favorite Song

LipDub.in – The site’s name pretty much sums its concept, but in case you need a more detailed description, here it is: “LipDub.in combines lip synching and audio dubbing to make a music video. It is made by filming individuals or a group of people lip synching while listening to a song or any recorded audio then dubbing over it in post editing with the original audio of the song.”

To see an example of what users do on LipDub.in, see the two videos below; the first from Poland, Lip -dubbing Depeche Mode’s Just Can’t Get Enough; the second from the UK, doing Jet’s Are You Gonna Be My Girl.

Bakerella – Fun, Easy and Beautiful Baking

Bakerella – This is one of the top three winning Weekly Blogs of the week of Sep 20, and no wonder; what started out as a personal endeavor to keep track of her baking and decorating attempts, Bakerella quickly became the amazing baking blog it is today. Bakerella is a must RSS for all baking amateurs and professionals out there, and I just love the yummy photos and easy step by step recipes she encloses with every post.

So who is Bakerella? We don’t have a name as of yet, but we do know she’s a lovely baking fanatic who took an introductory cake decoration class a few steps further (and thank God for that!). Give the aromatic and sticky-fingered baking world a try. Make cakes, cupcakes, pop-cakes, cheesecakes and many other baked goods, all with tested recipes of the brilliant Bakerella.
