UJAM- Mess Around with and Create Music

UJAM– This innovative website is essentially a “new technology platform which everyone can use to compose, produce, and publish their own music. Share your musical creativity with your friends and music fans around the world!”

Making use of UJAM’s full list of features would take a pro, it seems, but if you’re into music, this is definitely the place for you to practice your DJ and composing talent. As much as I would have liked to create a cool jam, my efforts came out disappointing, to say the least. But I’m sure you could do much better. After you log in, start with the Getting Started section and then proceed to the Application – where the magic happens.

MTVNHD Experience – In this HD Video Clip You Are the Star

MTVNHD Experience – MTV has created a cool music project that invites you to pick your music style (club, metal, hip-hop, pop and rock), upload a photo from your computer or take one using your webcam, and star in your music video of choice. The high definition video clip is amazing, and it’s always rewarding to see yourself at the center of the action, with the dance girls swirling around you. Can you guess who is my star in the screen shot below? Hint: he loves snow and reindeer.

Going – Find Cool Things to Do in NYC and Other Cities

Going – Find cool things to do, see and discover in your city with Going, a one-stop place for cool attractions suiting your going out cup of tea (or beer). Although the beta version of Going starts off with NYC as the default location, there are 30 US cities to choose from.

The great part about Going is that you can search for fun things to do by checking activities and events’ popularity (what people like the most) so you don’t have to start wondering if a certain event is as promising as it seems or if it’s a flop. In addition, the Going platform allows you to meet new people seeking the same activities you are looking for, hence putting together people with the same areas of interest.

Other Going perks include popular places, Going deals (for members only), top searches, browsing by categories (nightlife, music, culture and more), and there’s even a mobile app that comes in handy when you’re out in the street looking for something fun to do. Going will show you what it really means to make the most out of what your city has to offer!

FoldingStory – Group Storytelling, Only the Group is the World

FoldingStory – Remember that fragmented storytelling we used to play as kids in school where one kid would begin with a sentence and each subsequent participants would add another part? I loved it because there was always a surprising turn to the story, usually a funny one. FoldingStory is based upon the same group storytelling concept, only the group is all users out there. To enter your ‘fold,’ sign up.

To help you get started, FoldingStory recommends visiting the help page, or checking out a few of the finished stories before you begin. This is my favorite – group collaboration at its finest!

Map Your Valentine – Cherish the Place, Cherish the Moment

Map Your Valentine – Apparently Google can get cute. Really cute. Using the company’s maps and street view technology, Google offers an original way to send a lovely greeting card to the one you love. How does it work? Fill out the email addresses of receiver and sender, type a location that is special to the two of you (i.e. the restaurant where the marriage proposal took place, the street corner where the two of you first met, etc) and add a personal note in the text box. You can choose between a map and a street view image for that romantic location.

The end result is a sweet “I Love You” letter showing two little Google Maps location icons, forming a small heart shape, showing the exact place of your choice. What a unique way to cherish those magical moments of love, especially on St. Valentine’s Day!

Google Art Project – See this video to get a behind the scenes look at the Google Art Project – Another amazing feature by Google, this Art Project by the communication giant brings art right into your face, in an experience no other technology has been able to produce until now. Pick out one of the many globally acclaimed museums from the list, and then choose between walking through the museum’s galleries or looking at specific masterpieces so close you can see each brush stroke in super high quality resolution.

The museum tour, as you will see for yourself, is a smart adaptation of Google’s Street View technology, and it feels as if you are right there in London, Berlin and NYC, admiring the art of famous virtuosos. Below is an image of the ‘museum stroll view’ at the National Gallery in London.

Qwiki – Innovative Visualized Information Consumption

Qwiki – What’s your usual research method online when you want to learn more about something or someone? Google? Wikipedia? These two and other Web search tools will most definitely direct you to relevant resources, but I would like to suggest an innovative website that goes about information consumption with an entirely different approach: Qwiki.

Typing a search word or phrase in Qwiki’s search box prompts a wonderland of visually presented information including photos, maps and data that are accompanied by both vocal narration and text. The end result is an engaging presentation on whatever you’d like to learn more about, be it historical figures, events, monuments, animals, even locations and businesses. Start by searching for your hometown on Qwiki and see what I mean. Another example is the one below of the famous philosopher Aristotle. Click the image below to see it.

Nimmo Bay Interactive 360 Video – What a better way to advertise a helicopter resort in British Columbia than to shoot a 360 angle video from a helicopter? Hit play and click & drag your mouse on the video to look anywhere, regardless of the helicopter’s flight direction or angle! The scenery is amazing, but the comprehensive view ability is even better. Here’s the video below. Enjoy.

Sinuous – HTML5 Game That Only Looks Simple

Sinuous – This game looks simple. All you have to do is avoid bumping into the red dots. Easy, right? Wrong. Meander your way between the dots, collect the colored number circles and move up to the next level. It gets really complicated as you go along. This cool game uses HTML5, the most advanced development standard for structuring and presenting content on the Web. Sinuous was created by Hakim El Hattab; Sound design by Plan8.
