DeMilked – Serving Extra Strong Design Cocktails

DeMilked – A design milking magazine? Say what? DeMilked extract (as in the verb, milk) “the world’s most creative minds and make you tasty inspiration cocktails by mixing industrial design, technology, concepts, advertising and a little bit of web design.” DeMilked certainly lives up to this promise. It is filled with inspiring, beautiful and surprising posts, all accompanied by hi-res photos and insightful commentary.

My favorite post currently on DeMilked -even though I’ve already seen this elsewhere on the Web a couple of months ago- is 40 Clever and Creative Bus Top Advertisements. Can you guess who is the brand behind these cool pop-up ads? Click the images below to see the post in full and find out.

Pixlr – Who Needs Photoshop? Here’s a Free Online Photo Editing Tool

Pixlr – For those of you working in the graphic design and photography fields, Pixlr is a bliss. The company calls itself “an online cloud-based image tools and utilities” provider serving “both non-professionals and professional users with editing needs…”

Pixlr offers a wide collection of services, all centered around photo editing including the classic photo editor, and the Pixlr-O-Matic Facebook app that turns your Facebook photos into retro snaps. These are but two features Pixlr offers. Finally there’s a free alternative to the costly Photoshop software (although limited in features compared to the latter).

Svpply – Find and Share Your Taste of Art, Style & Home Decor

Svpply – Back in December I talked about a cool tagging site called Nuji, where users roam around the Web and tag things (can be fashion, interior design and more), share their finds with others and find inspirations from other users’ tagged items. Svpply offers the same overall service, with additional slight improvements. With Svpply you can filter ‘finds’ by selecting product category, gender and price.

Follow users who have the same taste as you do, and get you-centered product recommendation, plus the direct path to buying that dress, sofa or artwork. To start off, why not explore the site’s Editor’s picks?

Happy hunting.

My Publisher – Customized Photo Albums Too Cool for Grandma

MyPublisher – Who hasn’t come across those dreadful, totally over the top photo albums grandmas almost drool over at every large family gathering? Forget about those. Now there’s MyPublisher, a stylish website that helps you create affordable, high-quality custom-made books that offer “personal, creative outlets that let people truly express themselves.”

Take your pick between photo albums, photo calendars, scrapbook pages and even premium photo cards. I recommend checking out the site’s Just Published pages to see what other people have created, and to learn more about all the cool features MyPublisher offers. Here’s one of my personal favorites, Little Miss Can’t Be Wrong. Isn’t it adorable?

Dear Photograph – Making the Past Come Alive with the Right Photo in the Right Place

Dear Photograph – This cool tumblr blog is simple but also inspiring and compelling. Dear Photograph’s idea is straightforward, judging by its call to action: “take a picture of a picture from the past in the present.” This doesn’t say much, so here’s a visual example:

Dear Photograph is an ongoing feed of such posts made up of pictures of old photos, held up in the air at the location of the original ones. The result is captivating photos capturing both past and present in one frame, thereby keeping that old memory alive and kicking in an artistic way.

Let’s Baby Dance – Evian Can Make You Baby-Young

Evian’s Let’s Baby Dance – If you haven’t seen it yet, the French mineral water company Evian has been leading a huge global campaign these past couple of years with babies as the brand’s leading stars (remember the roller-skating babies video that instantly went viral?). These past few weeks billboards and roadside posters in major cities worldwide have been decorated with images of pretty people wearing a T-shirt with a baby’s body so it looks like the model has a baby figure from the neck down . To make this campaign a true cross-platform project, the “Baby Inside” advertising concept has become viral online as well with Evian’s Let’s Baby Dance website.

Evian’s interactive and totally fun Let’s Baby Dance site invites you to take part in the global movement of working it baby style by using your computer camera. Before you begin, hit play on the homepage to see what previous users have done, and then click the “Take Part” button under the main image. You will be asked to pick your baby of choice and turn on your webcam. The ad’s signature track, a cool new version of Tom Tom Club’s Wordy Rappinghood by Uffie (remixed by DJ Mehdi), can be downloaded via iTunes Store.

Juxtapoz – Visual Arts Galore

Juxtapoz – Celebrating the various visual art forms, Juxtapose magazine -a Weekly Blog winner- is a beautiful website celebrating exceptional street art, illustrations, tattoos and graffiti. To truly discover what Juxtapoz magazine is about you have to see it. The magazine’s video section would be my recommended first stop. That’s where I found the video below, Kinect Graffiti by Jean-Christophe Naour.

Baubauhaus – Daily Feed of Beauty and Creativity

Baubauhaus – Here’s a daily design feed you should RSS to even if you’re not a creative professional or artist. Appreciating aesthetics and creativity is just as important and therefore, Baubauhaus is a must site to add to your web favorites list. The site provides a daily dose of inspiration in design, illustration, photography, fashion and in all else art-related.

Exploring Baubauhaus made me feel like I could spend my entire day browsing the gorgeous and inspiring entries on the site. The site’s content is not always original, but it sure is pretty! Here’s my favorite photography post, Green by Linda Lundgren.

InspireFirst – Where Creative Professionals Worldwide Can Find Inspiration

InspireFirst – Sources of inspiration for creative professionals are an absolute must. InspireFirst recognizes this ever-increasing demand in creative ideas and had thus created “a global source of inspiration for all the web-designerspaintersphotographersarchitectsfashion designers, and representatives of all the other professions and hobbies, where inspiration is treated as an integral part of a creative production process.”

The creative showroom-like platform makes InspireFirst an easily accessible and appealing spot for resourceful ideas in design and art, which is not an obvious thing online. It usually takes long, in-depth research to find worthy inspirations, and now InspireFirst has facilitated this mission. To give an example, here’s an image from the post Illustrations by Florian NICOLLE:

The Burning House – What Would You Save from Your Burning Home?

The Burning House – The concept of this beautiful and inspiring blog -a winning Weekly Blog, in fact, by Foster Huntington– is simple: “If your house was burning, what would you take with you?” Each post is the submission of a different person showing quite aesthetically his or her must-have objects.

See what Luca Cavallaro, a 34 year old designer from NY has picked:

Name: Luca Cavallaro
Age: 34
Location: New York
Occupation: Designer
Website: http://officineottiche.tumblr.com/

List:

  • Alma Lou, she would even be enough.

If I have time:

  • Hard drive, for memories that my brain failed to store.
  • Sunglasses, I feel naked without them.
  • Wallet, a gift from my wife.
  • My father’s old camera, I promised him to take good care.
  • Sneaker, emergency orange.
  • In the black box, my vintage eyewear collection (favorite only).
  • Phone.
  • Vintage leather mask, in case I have to protect my face from the flames.
  • Dieter Rams alarm clock, I don’t wake up on my own.
  • Orange hummer, if i have to brake some windows during the escape.
  • Life buoy ring, in case of flooding. In Italy we say:” le sfighe non vengono mai da sole”, misfortunes never come alone.

To submit your own photographed list of items you would take from your burning house, submit your own post.

Life + Times – An Eclectic Collection of Media, Culture and Pretty Things

Life + Times – Sometimes there simply isn’t an easy way to explain what a site is about except for exploring it by yourself. This is exactly the case with Jay Z’s fabulous Life + Times, “a digital experience” covering art, sports, music, fashion and culture.
