MTVNHD Experience – In this HD Video Clip You Are the Star

MTVNHD Experience – MTV has created a cool music project that invites you to pick your music style (club, metal, hip-hop, pop and rock), upload a photo from your computer or take one using your webcam, and star in your music video of choice. The high definition video clip is amazing, and it’s always rewarding to see yourself at the center of the action, with the dance girls swirling around you. Can you guess who is my star in the screen shot below? Hint: he loves snow and reindeer.

Going – Find Cool Things to Do in NYC and Other Cities

Going – Find cool things to do, see and discover in your city with Going, a one-stop place for cool attractions suiting your going out cup of tea (or beer). Although the beta version of Going starts off with NYC as the default location, there are 30 US cities to choose from.

The great part about Going is that you can search for fun things to do by checking activities and events’ popularity (what people like the most) so you don’t have to start wondering if a certain event is as promising as it seems or if it’s a flop. In addition, the Going platform allows you to meet new people seeking the same activities you are looking for, hence putting together people with the same areas of interest.

Other Going perks include popular places, Going deals (for members only), top searches, browsing by categories (nightlife, music, culture and more), and there’s even a mobile app that comes in handy when you’re out in the street looking for something fun to do. Going will show you what it really means to make the most out of what your city has to offer!

Hitlantis – Discovering New Music with Color Bubbles

Hitlantis – Seems like music discovery sites are popping everywhere on the Web, and for a good reason. On the one hand, the Web is supposed to be a bottomless well of information that is just a click away, but on the other hand, it’s almost impossible to reach those new upcoming artists taking a shot at stardom.  Hitlantis belongs to the same overall niche, only it showcases artists in a totally different way.

You start off with the home screen above. No, this isn’t the color pallet at Home Depot, it’s Hitlantis’ amazing approach to showing you what music discoveries are out there. Zoom in using the magnifying glass icon on the left and search for the colors (using the legend) representing your preferred music styles (mine are turquoise and yellow – Electro and Blues, respectively).

To give a more specific example, see the screen shot below showing the artist KSU, a blues band. As you can see, the interface is beautifully designed to allow easy listening to your chosen songs, and you can vote for your favorite tracks as well. Each bubble represents a different artist and displays that artist’s ‘hotness’ rank with a numerical value.

Hitlantis is amazing in every possible way; the music variety is huge, the unique interface is super cool and the sound quality is top notch. I’m adding this one to my personal favorites!

FoldingStory – Group Storytelling, Only the Group is the World

FoldingStory – Remember that fragmented storytelling we used to play as kids in school where one kid would begin with a sentence and each subsequent participants would add another part? I loved it because there was always a surprising turn to the story, usually a funny one. FoldingStory is based upon the same group storytelling concept, only the group is all users out there. To enter your ‘fold,’ sign up.

To help you get started, FoldingStory recommends visiting the help page, or checking out a few of the finished stories before you begin. This is my favorite – group collaboration at its finest!

Yumm! – Delicious Recipe Bookmarks

Yumm! – This site offers a most productive tool for cooks all over. Instead of subscribing to various food blogs and sites on the Web, Yumm! invites you to have all of your favorite recipes in one place, and also gives you the option of sharing these with friends!

I gave Yumm! a try and loved it. It certainly makes online recipe management a breeze. In addition, you can browse Yumm!’s recipe collection and find your next perfect dish right here. I explored the site’s most active section, which is where I found the mouth-watering Oreo Cheesecake Cupcakes. Click the image to go to the recipe.

Map Your Valentine – Cherish the Place, Cherish the Moment

Map Your Valentine – Apparently Google can get cute. Really cute. Using the company’s maps and street view technology, Google offers an original way to send a lovely greeting card to the one you love. How does it work? Fill out the email addresses of receiver and sender, type a location that is special to the two of you (i.e. the restaurant where the marriage proposal took place, the street corner where the two of you first met, etc) and add a personal note in the text box. You can choose between a map and a street view image for that romantic location.

The end result is a sweet “I Love You” letter showing two little Google Maps location icons, forming a small heart shape, showing the exact place of your choice. What a unique way to cherish those magical moments of love, especially on St. Valentine’s Day!

Combining wall painting, photography, animation and sound to create a unique comprehensive experience, 99 Rooms is inspired by the works of Berlin artist Kim Köster “within the countless vacated premises of East Berlin‘s industrial sector.” Although the project first came out in 2004, it continues to surprise and inspire millions of viewers worldwide.
