A European Capital of Culture!
Marseille-Provence was voted a European capital of culture in 2013. In order to honor the French location, Bouches-du-Rhône Tourisme launched a site celebrating the region’s art and culture. The site hosts one creation by a different artist each week.
Learn About and Participate in the City’s Arts Culture.
The website was created as a form of tourist promotion, but it takes a vastly different approach than most tourism websites. Instead of focusing on the most popular things to do or see in Marseille, the site offers information about the city’s art and culture. All of this is related to the Marseille-Provence MyProvence Festival, which takes place over the course of several weeks and demonstrates the area’s best local arts. There’s also the ability to enter an arts competition through the festival’s website, and entries are open and eligible to anyone. The winner receives a short artistic residency in order to create work in Marseille and contribute to the city’s already vibrant arts and culture scene.
