Speedsums is a website that offers simple math challenges to determine how quickly you can calculate compared to the rest of the world.
Speedsums is a website that determines how quickly you can process math problems and compares your skill set to the rest of the world. The site is extremely simple, but also fun and challenging. As soon as you arrive to the site, you’re greeted with a simple math problem, such as “1 + 6.” The idea is that the math problems are simple enough that you should be able to complete them in about one second. As soon as you start typing one answer, the clock starts counting down from 30 seconds. If you type a correct answer, another question appears. If you type the wrong answer, you’re forced to figure out the solution as the clock is winding down. The questions typically get progressively harder, but all of them consist of basic arithmetic.
Speedsums communicates with its users with a dry sense of humor. When I stupidly typed in “35” as the answer for “7 x 6,” for instance, the site responded with the following: “For future reference, 7 x 6 = 42. It should not take 9.94s to solve that next time.” The site also claims that, “if you got below 30 on your first attempt, you should probably practice a little bit before embarrassing yourself again.” The practice mode consists of a 120 problem set with an no time limit so that you can truly hone your elementary math skills. The site also has a built-in leader board, and the top 40 users currently have a score of 46. Whether your a math genius or not, head over to Speedsums and see if you can top that number.
