Twitter #music offers a fresh approach to finding new music by using Tweets and follows to power discovery. Listen to the Twitter reflection of the best new music in the world right now.
Twitter #music is a service that changes the way people find music, based entirely on Twitter. It uses Twitter activity, including Tweets and engagement, to detect and surface the most popular tracks and emerging artists. It also brings artists’ music-related Twitter activity front and center by allowing you to go to a user’s profile and see which musical artists they follow, then listen to songs by those artists. All you have to do is download Twitter #music from the App Store or use it’s web version, Since Twitter #music is integrated with the Twitter product, a simple sign in with your Twitter account will connect you to it.
Twitter #music is currently available in the US, UK, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, and Canada, but that is not it’s major drawback, THIS FACT IS: you can only listen to full tracks if you log in with your subscription on Rdio or an unlimited/premium subscription on Spotify. If you are not subscribed to either you will only get a rather annoying 30-second iTunes preview. Those of you who do use Spotify or Rdio will find that they can choose from different kinds of playlists; The Popular chart which contains the top 140 artists who are currently trending based on Twitter activity, the Emerging chart contains the rising artists who are currently trending according to taste-makers, the Suggested chart is curated of artists you might be interested in but don’t already follow based on artists you are following, and The #NowPlaying chart is composed of songs that the people you follow, or those who follow you, have tweeted.
Though it annoys me that the service is not available for everyone for free, one cannot ignore the amazing service Twitter #music offers, especially for discovering new music, and the interface on both app and web version is simply brilliant. Still, for the time being I personally will stick to Serendip which offers a very similar service, with the addition of the music you follow on Facebook, for FREE… Try both and tell me: Which one do you prefer? Twitter #music or Serendip?
