Postmates promises delivery of any type of local goods in under one hour.
On-demand, 24/7
Postmates is an on-demand delivery service that has a simple business model: for a small fee, they will deliver anything you want (that can be found in your city) in an under an hour. The service currently operates in 10 states, including most major U.S. cities. It also operates in Washington D.C. The site’s homepage includes a search bar that lets you enter your home address. After conducting a search, a list of available delivery options is quickly returned. Most of the options are food, but the results are listed in a much more visually-appealing way than sites like Seamless or Grubhub. The service itself is more similar to Uber or Lyft, in that the site matches your request with a courier that’s willing to complete the delivery.
Order from the Web or Smartphone App
Postmates also has an advantage over sites like Seamless because its couriers can theoretically deliver anything from anywhere in your city. Your not limited by delivery radiuses or store policies. All of the restaurants featured on Postmates also have a built-in menu, with the ability to customize your order to your liking before adding it to your cart. There’s also the option to search for “anything” — allowing users to type in their request in the hopes that Postmates will be able to deliver it. The site employs a large staff of couriers that are standing by to complete deliveries. Not unlike Magic — a comparable app that recently went viral — Postmates is willing to get you anything you want as quickly as possible in exchange for a reasonable fee.
