Penroads: Find Travel Partners

Penroads uses your trip itinerary to help you find travel partners around the world.

Travel Alone…

Traveling alone can be a rewarding, enriching experience. One of the best parts about traveling alone, of course, is meeting people along the way. Penroads makes finding travel partners easier, allowing people to connect before or after arriving at a particular destination. The site was created after its founder, Harry Daniel Fu, a self-described introvert, had trouble meeting people during a backpacking trip to Thailand. He wasn’t as comfortable initiating the conversation in hostels — a skill it takes to find people to hang out with and travel with while you’re on the road. Penroads was made to simplify that process, making social connections more accessible for all types of people and personalities.

…But Not Too Alone

In its current form, Penroads focuses mostly on Asian countries. Cities within Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, Philippines, Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia are all represented. If you’re planning on doing a backpacking trip through Southeast Asia any time soon, it’s the perfect place to find people that are on a similar journey. The site lets you upload your itinerary — including the countries you’ll be visiting, places you’ll be staying and dates you’ll be traveling. It helps match you up with others on a similar schedule, and you can also view fellow travelers by the hostel they’re staying at. Traveling alone is one of the best things you can do at any point in your life. Penroads just makes it a bit easier to enjoy yourself.
