Horti is a plant subscription service.
Learn To Love Plants
There are subscription box services for everything, so of course there are subscription box services for plants. Horti differentiates itself from that bunch by marketing itself towards beginners. There must be a market for these kinds of people (I know there is at least somewhat of a market (me)): people who want to take care of plants but are terrified about killing them. The commitment to keeping a plant alive seems difficult. Horti starts subscribers out with easy-to-take-care-of plants in order to build customer confidence before they move on to more challenging species. As with any skill, practice makes perfect. Raising plants is no exception.
Start Slow, Build Confidence
Horti‘s pricing begins at $18/month if you live in NYC, or $25 for the rest of the U.S. The company sends you a box with planting instructions, as well as the relevant materials you need. Its homepage claims that doing the planting yourself helps you build an emotional connection with whatever ultimately sprouts out of it. There’s also the option to filter by plant type, such as low-light, pet-friendly, or hard-to-kill. If you just want to order a bunch of plants at once, for instant gratification and instant apartment or home decoration, you can do so. Plants undoubtedly enrich the lives of their owners, and Horti offers a well-planned introduction to a potentially transformative hobby.
