In the past the latter case could be achieved only by visiting the place, well not anymore. italki is a language exchange site, you can learn a new language by actually chatting or talking (and maybe make some friends along the way) with someone from another country. I assume that for some it will be better than listening to a CD or podcast, after all there is no substitue to actually practicing a language.
