Charity: Water – Right now 1.1 billion people on the planet don’t have access to safe, clean drinking water. That’s one in six of us. Many communities in developing nations often have a plentiful supply of clean drinking water just below the ground, but no way to get to it. This is where Charity:Water and their partner organizations come in. Drilling a well can cost between $4,000 and $12,000 USD and many people living on less than $1 a day simply cannot afford one in their community, even if everybody pitches in. On February 12, 2009, 100+ international cities hosted a Twestival to bring Twitter communities together in an effort to raise money for Charity: Water. The Twestival’s goal (see video featuring Charity: Water founder Scott Harrison) was set to one million dollars. Unfortunately, it seems they are quite far from this target and have only managed to raise $41,388.86. But if you still want to do your part in helping disadvantaged communities around the world get access to clean water, you can always donate anonymously or donate using your twitter account. That way you’ll enhance your donation by letting more people know about the charity and cause. If you don’t know what twitter is, you can start by following us.
