Collaboration Matters Most.
What Matters Most is an online co-operative experience spearheaded by a new generation of artists and filmmakers seeking to improve their respective crafts through collaboration. The site, which is beautifully-designed, hosts short films created through collaborations with musical artists that have a similar taste and style. There’s a short film hosted on the site entitled “Wildcat,” for instance, which features original music created by the artist Flying Lotus. The film was directed and edited by Kahlil Joseph and features stunning black-and-white imagery of rural Oklahoma life, accompanied by Flying Lotus’s unsettling score. It’s an amazing piece of art, and it’s only the first thing hosted on What Matters Most.
Great Art Matters Most.
What Matters Most also features Kahlil Joseph’s short film “Until The Quiet Comes,” which shares both a title and music from Flying Lotus’s latest album. Joseph also has short film that accompanies the music of Shabazz Palaces, yet another forward-thinking and innovative contemporary hip-hop group. Joseph also directs a two-part video series featuring the music of Brazilian artist Seu Jorge. While Joseph’s films are incredible, there are other filmmakers hosted on the site as well. Chelsea McMullan directs the visuals that accompany Rae Spoon’s sweet alt-country tunes, providing an elegant and fitting backdrop of horses and mountains. There isn’t much information offered on What Matters Most aside from film credits and a short explanation of each film, but the site also offers the opportunity to sign up for the mailing list should future projects be created. The works currently hosted on the site are definitely worth viewing in the meantime.
