24 Hours Of Happy is the world’s first 24-hour music video, featuring a looped-soundtrack of Pharell’s song “Happy” as well as cameos from tons of well-known musicians, actors and other artists.
Clap Along.
Pharell’s new music video is 24 hours long. That is the length of an entire day. Although the song is only a few minutes long, it repeats on a loop as the video plays. For 24 hours straight. In another artist’s hands, such a lengthy music video might be boring or otherwise unendurable. While I couldn’t quite watch the entire 24-hour thing here, I was entertained for more than a few go-arounds of the song, which itself is incredibly infectious, catchy and, yes, happy. At one point in the video, around 1pm, you can see Earl Sweatshirt, Tyler the Creator and Domo Genesis from Odd Future walking down a street in downtown Los Angeles, flailing their arms to the beat, smiling hugely, and semi-robbing a local shop owner. Later you might catch Steve Carell singing to some other individuals on a school bus. Most of the scenes occur throughout Los Angeles, and the time of day indicated on the site aligns itself with the time at which the scenes were shot. The video is really cool and definitely worth checking out.
Because you’re Happy.
The best part of the video is that it doesn’t force you to watch the entire 24-hour thing. If you just want to jump around a little bit and see if you can spot . Pharell appears more than a couple times, as he should. At around 5:30am, Despicable Me fans might catch a glimpse of some of their favorite animated characters (the song can also be found on the soundtrack of Despicable Me 2). There are tons of cameos throughout the video and it would take a long time (like 24 hours) to truly find out who is in the entire thing. Pharell has had a huge year musically, appearing in two of 2013’s biggest songs — Daft Punk’s “Get Lucky” and Robin Thicke’s “Blurred Lines.” This track and its accompanying clip, “Happy,” is a contender for one of the year’s best, as well. When you first log on to the site, it begins playing the video at around the time when you’re watching it (so if you wanna leave it on all day, go ahead).
