The 2014 Sochi Olympics have already ended, but that doesn’t mean they have gone away. Every four years, the Olympic Games make a significant impact on history, and this year was no different. Olympic Story was set up in order to allow users to more easily explore the history of past Games. The site features video footage, infographics, medal tables, facts, numbers, mascots, medals and numerous other bits of knowledge regarding the Winter Olympic Games, which began in 1924 in Chamonix, France. To give you a sense of the way the Games have changed since then, only 16 countries participated in the original Winter Olympic Games for a total of 16 sets of medals.

The Olympic Story site is browsable by year of Olympic Games, and each year hosts a wealth of information about the particular Games that took place then. The site is navigable by simply scrolling through the stories about certain athletes, as well as medal tables and maps of where the medals were distributed in a particular year. There’s also the option to view the Olympic results “for all time.” The leader of the overall medal count is an interesting graphic to view. Russia / the USSR is in the lead with 341 overall medals, 136 of them being gold. The remaining top countries, in order, are Norway, the USA, Germany, Austria, Canada, Finland, Sweden, Switzerland and Italy. The site was built in Russia in anticipation of the 2014 Sochi Games, so there’s the ability to browse in either English or Russian. There’s also a good deal of information regarding the Sochi Olympics, which wrapped up a couple of weeks ago.
