FiveThirtyEight: Current Events for the Data-Loving Reader

FiveThirtyEight is a ESPN’s newest star delivering today’s most current events in an analytic manner, backed by facts and figures.

More than Just Sports

ESPN-owned website, FiveThirtyEight has been around for several years now, but has been gaining popularity since being taken over by ESPN. Many people would think that a website owned by ESPN must be all about sports. However, Editor-in-Chief, Nate Silver, and several other contributors use “data journalism” to write articles on five categories: politics, sports, life, economics and science. The articles are filled with data and numbers to support what the journalists are reporting on. Articles currently on the homepage range from where to find the best burrito to unemployment to Eric Cantor’s defeat.

In-Depth Analysis

With that being said, the majority of articles currently on the site are about the World Cup, but then again, little else is being talked about anywhere. And, as an aspiring Sports Marketing professional, I can tell you that a lot goes into sports, especially world-wide sporting events, such as economical and political issues. FiveThirtyEight does a good job at reporting on various topics for each category, and the articles are jam-packed with facts and figures, perfect for the data-loving reader.
