Whisper: Share Your Secrets Anonymously

Whisper is a mobile application on which users anonymously post secret messages, read others’ posts and communicate with each other.

Shhhhh…

Whisper is an app that allows users to anonymously share their secrets with the world. Whether you have something dark that you need to get out or you just want to share something without anyone you know finding out, Whisper offers a platform for your expression. The app is available on Android and iOS mobile devices, and it also has a web browser component. Any user can post an anonymous message on the platform, which appears as text atop a photograph. Samples include “I won $50,000 on a scratch ticket. I haven’t told anyone yet.” and “I like to drink my pop from a Twizzlers straw!” Entries can be serious, comedic, or whatever the reader wishes to get off his or her chest. All of these entries appear on Whisper’s homepage, and can potentially be viewed by anyone browsing the app.

A Secret Social Network.

Even though Whisper is entirely anonymous and users do not have public profiles, the app still allows users to interact with each other. If you see an interesting post, you can respond either via public anonymous post or a private message with your username attached. This creates a dialogue amongst strangers that, when used correctly, can have some positive outcomes. A user posting a secret is obviously upset or worried or ashamed about something, and the responses he or she receives can help the user work through those issues or figure out what to do next. It’s also fun to peek into the lives of others without actually learning much about them. There are constantly new posts to sift through, and each of them offers a slice of life from somewhere around the globe. Whisper is definitely a new type of social network, and it’s absolutely worth adding to your collection of apps.
