Glassbreakers is a professional network designed to help end gender inequality. The site provides a peer mentorship community for professional women, designed to help them overcome the social, political and economic inequalities that plague the workplace. The site was designed as network for all those that identify as a woman, which means that men are excluded from becoming members. Joining the network is also a bit of an exclusive process, as each potential member has to submit an application via LinkedIn. Once approved, each member of the community is instantly deemed a mentor, encouraged to help motivate the rest of the network to succeed in their professional goals and endeavors.

Peer-to-peer Mentorship and Guidance

Glassbreakers connects its members by using a combination of LinkedIn data and user input to find women with common career goals. Because the network works with LinkedIn, it adds an extra level of legitimacy and ease-of-use as well as an exclusive groups of contacts that are willing to support each other. It’s a smart way to help the relatively disenfranchised population of professional women get ahead in their respective industries. The site also offers a collection of curated content from around the web written by professional women or about the workplace. Although my gender may exclude me from ever becoming a member, Glassbreakers is an important site to help women further their professional pursuits together.
