Write better & faster (and harder & stronger?)
Gingko is a word-processing tool designed for writers of all types. The application’s most useful feature is its organizational tool, which helps writers keep track of the information and content that they want to include in their final project. This feature is especially useful for narrative writing, such as novels or screenplays. Those that spent hours searching through lengthy documents to cut and paste paragraphs in different locations can worry longer. Users can write down different scenes or plot points on virtual cards, and then rearrange those cards until they find the most sensible order. Three “trees” (or the connected branches of organizational cards you use) are free, and the site offers unlimited trees for $15. Gingko isn’t only useful for plotting fictional stories, as this function helps significantly when it comes to writing academic papers or other documents. Any type of writing that requires planning or note-taking, really, can be enhanced by Gingko’s intuitive and writer-friendly features.
Write your words with friends
Unlike desktop word processing applications, Gingko makes it easy to collaborate with friends on writing projects. The application also makes sure that you and your writing partner(s)’ collaborative approach is speeding up the process rather than having the opposite effect. When users edit specific portions of a writing project, that portion of the writing temporarily becomes locked. That way, users are not writing the same thing at the same time or attempting to compete for space. This feature makes it easier for writers to work on different portions of the same project — one on content creation and the other on overall organization, for example. Gingko also includes a large amount of keyboard shortcuts that make navigating the application more easily.
As a person that does a large amount of writing and has difficulty maintaining organization with the other word processing applications offer, I can highly recommend using Gingko. It truly makes the often-difficult task of focusing on and completing writing projects — alone or with a partner — much easier to accomplish.
