Inviting Readers to Go on Assignment
National Geographic’s Your Shot is inviting both professional photographers and hobbyists to submit their best photos for a different assignment each month. The themes are broad, allowing room for creative interpretation, such as Catch the Light and Travelogue. After the deadline, the top photos are compiled into a story and featured in their magazine. The first prize (for the most outstanding photo) includes a five-day photography workshop and a private session to review their portfolio with National Geographic photographers and editors. This is the ultimate form of crowd sourcing that allows for amateurs to “go on assignment” with National Geographic, whose work wouldn’t have been discovered otherwise.
Tell YOUR Story and Get Published
This is the perfect opportunity for people simply dabbling in photography to show off their skills. Your Shot is giving ordinary people the chance to submit their photos, and trust me, the ordinary have extraordinary talent. The current project is titled “Explore Our Changing World” and I could spend hours going through the submissions. The photos are breathtaking and it’s hard to believe that they were shot by regular folks. The Your Shot community comes from all corners of the earth, creating great diversity in the submissions that include animals, people, and landscapes. Whether you’re a pro or an amateur, don’t miss out on this incredible opportunity to exhibit your work.
