Daily Stories on Snapchat
If you don’t know what Snapchat is, it is an application for iPhones and Androids for people to send a picture that lasts no longer than 10 seconds to anyone in their contact list. Not only has it brought the world together by having cities host their own story that can be viewed by anyone, but it brings communities within those cities together by having their own stories as well. Snapchat created a great marketing strategy by allowing people to submit their own artwork of a specific location, and have anyone use it to send a picture of themselves with that “geotag”. This strategy has made a lot of users want to send in their own Snapchat to their stories or the story for their specific area. Here are 4 different types of stories you would see on Snapchat:
“My Story”
This is the story that you personally have on your Snapchat account. Only your Snapchat contacts can see it. You can post any photo or video you take for however many seconds you like on your story, and it will be available for others to view for 24 hours. After the 24 hours, it will be deleted. Most people use it to let their followers see what they are doing during the day and look at what other people are doing during the day.
College/University Campuses
As a student at Pennsylvania State University, I was able to be a part of Snapchat’s marketing strategy “Campus Story” when it first started. Penn State was one out of a few schools that was able to test out Snapchat’s “Campus Story” feature. This allows people who are on campus of a specific university to upload a Snapchat to this story for the whole campus to see. From personal experience students at PSU witnessed the countdowns to our Dance MaraTHON, the unfortunate walks to our 8AM classes, drunk people doing stupid things at all hours of the night, and of course, a ton of snow… Not only do people use it to post videos or pictures like these, but it is a great opportunity for anyone trying to spread awareness of an event going on, or to simply entertain a student who is bored in class.
Cities Around the World
Every day, Snapchat displays a different city around the world with their own story. London, Paris, Zurich, Rome, Washington D.C., New York City, Portland, and many more have had their own stories. People who are in the vicinity of the location of the specific Snapchat story that day could upload a Snap of anything (and maybe add the geotag given for that day), and wait to see if it is approved to be added to that story. To give you guys an example, here is a Portland story. People who live in Portland, Oregon, U.S.A had the day to upload their stories to the Portland story to show the Snapchat world what it’s like living in this city. This is a great way for people around the world to see what each of these cities are like and what they have to offer.
Specific Events
From MLB Wednesday to Electric Daisy Carnival to Summer Camps, Snapchat has created these stories to let the people who are in attendance of these events show the world what they’re doing there. MLB Wednesday previews specific baseball games being played that day and let’s people add the geotag of their choice. They can show how much fun they’re having or show the disappointment they feel if their team loses. People at EDC Las Vegas were able to post videos of specific sets like Afrojack, 3LAU, Above & Beyond, Hardwell, and more. These stories are also great advertisements for these events to show viewers what it is like to attend these festivals or games, and make them want to buy tickets for the next event.
