Facebook Paper is a new feature from the social media giant that allows users to explore and share stories about the world.
Your Facebook Feed – Reimagined
Facebook Paper is a new mobile application that is not available for release until February 3rd. The official website for Paper, however, reveals information about the upcoming app’s function and features. The app seems to be a sort of updated version of the Facebook News Feed, allowing users to scroll through status updates and photographs posted by friends. The app differs from the traditional News Feed in that it also incorporates articles written by publications such as Time Magazine or The New York Times. It also features different scrolling options than offered on the standard news feed, as well as a different way of organizing and displaying status updates.

The ability to create a more complex story than a traditional status update or photo upload also seems to be a major feature of Facebook Paper. Users can tell a visual story by compiling multiple photos in an album that’s scrollable all at once. Users can also explore stories by selecting from a range of themes and interests, such as “Headlines” or “Tech.” Users can arrange their Paper so that their favorite categories are displayed in their own manner. The entire project seems like an effort to replace traditional newspapers by combining a variety of trusted, established sources with a user’s own stories as well as the stories written by their friends. Stories, according to Facebook, can be as simple as one line of written text or one photo. They can also be more complex. More details about the app can be viewed at Facebook’s beautifully-designed site, which makes incredible use of HTML5 to demonstrate its features on a virtual version of an iPhone. Facebook consistently makes great updates to its products, so Paper is an exciting feature.
