$5 Philanthropy
Thank you, oh great Patron of the written word! Thanks to your $5 a month, journalists across the globe can continue to regale us without the overbearing influence of advertisers or publishers. In other words, your money allows writers to be creative without having to worry about making their content too mainstream or politically correct. Beacon Reader sounds pretty Indie, but the writers eventually get published in some high-end print sources, including The New York Times, Vice, and TIME. And aside for some overhead costs from Beacon, your money goes directly to the writers.
Inspiration for Writers…
Your monthly subscription to Beacon Reader grants you access to all of the articles from every one of the 50+ writers. The articles span a variety of topics, representing the wide range of backgrounds of the journalists. For a few cents a day, I can read about Saba Imitaz’s stories from living inside Karachi, Pakistan, one of the most dangerous cities in the world. With the same subscription, I have access to Jean Friedman-Rudovsky’s accounts covering compelling stories of women the Global South. Jeff Chu writes about religion through a contemporary lens. Beacon Reader is inspiration for writers and travelers of all walks of life.
