Project 360 is an interactive experience allowing visitors to virtually climb the Eiger North Face of the Bernese Alps.

Virtually Ascend the Mountain

Project 360 was designed by Swiss mountaineering and trekking equipment company Mammut Sports Group to show the terrain of the Alps’ Eiger North Face. The site allows visitors to view an ascent of the mountain from the perspective of Mammut Pro athletes Dani Arnold and Stephan Siegrist. As you “progress” up the mountain, you can swivel the camera and view the mountain and the views that it offers from any angle (hence the 360 degrees in the site’s name). The images are astounding, and it’s about as close as you can get to actually climbing the mountain while you’re just sitting on your laptop or mobile device.

Explore an Interactive History of the Mountain

In addition to images of the mountain and the surrounding area, Project 360 also incorporates video, descriptions of the route and its conditions, and a history of the treks that have taken place there. There’s tons of information to explore, and you can learn about the mountain while taking in the incredible images hosted on the site. Because of the sheer size of the project and the amount of images and videos that are incorporated, the site can be slow to load on certain computers or browsers. There’s nothing worse than ascending up an awesomely beautiful mountain and having your progress stalled by a loading symbol. If your system can handle it, however, it’s definitely worth the experience.
